So I was wondering what do you put your rabbits hay in?  I put it directly on her litter box but I would like to put it hanging on her cage because she is getting so big for the box I want her to have as much room as she can in it.  I bought the wire litter hanger but she rips it off her cage all the time and I find it sitting in her box.  Also can rabbits have dandelion greens that you get at the supermarket?  I slowly starting to give her romaine lettuce which she loves.  Thanks Mindy

Yes, to the dandelion greens from the supermarket – mine love these.

I put hay in my rabbit’s litterboxes – maybe consider a larger box…although I’m not sure what size you currently use.

I put it in cardboard boxes that the short side of the litter box can fit into. It helps keep the hay clean and mostly contained.

I put mine in the small willow baskets that are just baskets or called hay holders. I set them next to the litter box. I tried zip tying one to the side, but she gnawed it loose. She seems to like to shove it around in a small area of her house, but mostly the hay stays inside and she eats out of it, so it’s a small mess in the morning.

I meant to tell you guys, though. I put in a fresh unpeeled willow basket I got from the store here to give her a new hay holder. She ate it!!! It took her weeks, but that sucker is gone! I had to go back to using her peeled willow hay basket that she doesn’t eat as much, so it’s at least 1″ deep. Will be getting another new one soon….

p.s willow is good for them, like hay is, for their teeth and tummies, so you can let them eat them up and just replace them. That’s why the toys are all willow balls and rings etc. No harm.

I put it in a giant cardboard box, since mine don’t go potty while they eat and refuse to use the litter boxes if I put the hay in them.

I know a lot of people like to put it in the litter box, but I hate doing that. It’s gross. LOL I put hay in a shallow cardboard box. They do just fine eating out of that, although they do enjoy turning it over and spilling hay all over the floor.

I put my hay in the heart shaped willow basket from BB, 3 days and it was gone! I will be buying more because the bunnies love unpeeled willow. Right now I put hay in the cardboard boxes that soda comes in. I got the idea from somewhere here on BB. If I put hay directly in the litterbox Totoro will pee on it.

And yes bunnies can eat the dandelion greens from the store and from outside (if the lawn is untreated)

I put a very small amount of hay in one corner of the litterbox and next to that corner outside the box is a willow basket with a large amount of hay. He will sit in the litterbox and eat the hay from the basket. The basket lasts about a year before it has to be replaced. I tie the back of basket to the nic cube with twine so he cannot get to it

I got a hay holder from the pet store, and it keep her from ripping it off the side of her cage, I zip tied the back of it in place.
