Hi everyone,
So we have a 4 month old female holland lop (Tiny) and a year old mini lop male (Teddy). We recently moved them both into their own room so they could have more space and privacy. Is it okay that they’re in the same room together (they’re separated & can’t touch each other) even though they both aren’t fixed yet?
Tiny is free roaming within the room, but Teddy is still in his cage surrounded by an xpen to make sure they can’t get too close to each other. Tiny just started getting hormonal recently, and is starting to buzz everywhere, tear up her litter box, mount us, etc. Teddy is also very hormonal– spraying, mounting, and buzzing as well. Both of them really haven’t shown any signs of aggression, though. We are planning on getting Teddy neutered soon and getting Tiny neutered as soon as she’s old enough (is it 6 months?). Is this an OK setup? Both buns are also taken out of the room to free roam the bunny proofed house every day usually for a few hours.
PS: We’ve taken Teddy out of his cage a few times, still within the xpen, to see how he & Tiny react to eachother. They both kinda just sniffed eachother, and even rolled next to eachother against the pen. (We watched them very closely, as I’ve read bunnies have been able to mate through cage bars before and/or hurt eachother!) Is this a bad idea? We’re very excited to bond them after they’re both fixed.
Thanks all!
Here’s a pic of their room if anyone is interested:
