So accidentally ended up with this guy today , in a petstore with a head tilt going on intermittently
I told them yesterday he needed to be seen by a vet – and off course I go back to check today to find out my advice was ignored – I couldn’t do nothing so I brought him and took him to my vet- planning to get him all the care he needs then find a great rescue to continue the doses and find a great home ( as left at the pet store there outcome would probably not be so good without treatment and well advised buyer )
After a check over the vet thinks active e cuniculi is the cause and we brought him the antibiotics.
Still unsure at that point what to do next as Oakley did not take well to a bunny in his house last time ( seperate cages and other side of the room and he still stressed!) however got this guy home and have had him on other side of the lounge out of Oakley’s sight ( just like we did with the other bunny previously ) and… not a care in the world from Oakley!!
So for now he is here with us – getting his meds he would otherwise not have
Taking it day by day but as long as Oakley is still not bothered at the end of the wee guys antibiotic course then he will have a forever home with us
He will maybe have balance issues still afterwards and eye issues still but there is a chance those will improve

Here he is still thinking of a name … maybe Baxter, Boston or baloo ( dunno ?)

No no definetly can’t do this again ! As I said , I had resided to the fact Oakley does not share
But I couldn’t leave this guy without the help he needed – it just so happened that Oakley ( so far) doesn’t mind that he in across the room … time will tell with him

At the moment he is stealing all our hearts so Oakley better stay ok with it !

My experience is that both pet shops and rescues are more likely to underestimate age than over, maybe cause younger pets are more sellable/rehomeable?

Boston is nice if you’re okay with it becoming Bossy….. lol.

and re Oakley. Animals can sense when others are in need so I’m sure ‘B’, being unwell, isn’t sending out any dominating or territorial vibes which is making Oakley chill out about his presence.

Are you sure B is a he ?

Well the vet at first thought it’s a girl but after a few rechecking times it popped out properly
He has a big boy head though ( over where I am there is usually quite a difference in the boys heads and the girls in lops)

Found out today Oakley is probably intersex too ( boy in the outside but no testes dropped at all – vet things possible girl parts on inside – should find out a plan for him in 3 weeks when we go back ) so been a big day!!

Petshop said he is 7 weeks – vet said he’s 12 weeks – he’s as big as Oakley though who is 4months and 2 weeks ( although Oakley is tiny for a holland lop so far )

I want Baxter too other half isn’t keen though – I might get outvoted for Boston I think – unless I get some better ideas very fast!!

He’s adorable! Oakley’s mama, where was that thread that had pages of names you thought of?! lol. What about “Boop”? When I saw his pic, I just wanted to reach out and give him and tap and say “Boop.”

He is so cute! Oakley sounds a bit like Luna, I don’t think she would share well. I think Baxter would be a cute name for him. Hopefully everything works out okay and he is feeling better really soon!

                                    Boston is too ‘meh’
He looks a bit like a Marley to me… must be that cute smudgy nose, the little wookie.

Luna I went through that thread but most I can’t use ( as either I have before or family names to similar as I have a big extended family – like there is a Ben so Bentley , benson ect is out , a Blake , a sam , a will you get the idea )
And other names I like don’t fit with him – sully , niko , Jack Frost ( I really like that but he doesn’t suit it when you call him )

We thought about naming something to do with how it started …
                                        He has e cuniculi – Eli ?

He looks like he is falling with the diagonal downward head movement – Timber ?

Wow, you really are a wonderful person to take this poor bunny home and get him treatment, I’m speechless that the pet shop just left him w/o seeking a vet but thank goodness you spotted him. And he is adorable! Let’s hope he and Oakley can become best buddies

Ok so now we have only two names on the list ( he really suits a “B” name and Ben / benny / benson doesn’t suit him even though I like them )
                                              So Baxter or Boston

Boston would be from a Boston bun ( It’s a bun with coconut icing prevalent in australia and nz )

Can you get something in writing from the vet regarding the state this little bun was in, and report the pet shop to the RSPCA or whatever your equivalent is?

Ill look into it , I’m not sure as it isn’t confirmed with blood test ( vets here don’t bloodyest for it as you often get false results since so many have it lieing dormant … vet is sure it’s what it is though.
I will speak to the vet again though and see if that is possible without a “formal diagnosis” as a formal diagnosis isn’t possible without the bloods.
I need to ring them again anyway as im concerned he may actually have reduced sight not just nystagmus
