After losing Bean, Mike looked at me one night and said, “So……are we going to the Humane Society on Saturday?”  I asked if he was sure he wanted to; was it too soon?  He said he didn’t think so and that he missed having a bunny in the house keeping us in line.  We took the carrier.  ”Just in case,” we said.  ”Doesn’t mean we’ll find someone today.  No rush.”

The Humane Society north of us (in Tacoma) is very, very rabbit-savvy for the most part.  We walked in to the small animal room and started looking.  The young lady there was more than happy to open up cages and let us have a pet.  We both fell for a bun, but he was on reserve waiting for his people to come pick him up.  Mike finally noticed a bun on the bottom tier, waaaaaay back in his pen so we hadn’t noticed him–Snuffles.  We’d seen his picture on the website.  I liked him, Mike thought he looked, as he put it, “diseased”.  To me, it looked like his face had gotten wet and his fur was just rumply.  Could we have a meeting with him?  Sure!  After filling out a bit of paperwork, we were introduced.  He came over to check us both out and then spent most of his time telescoping to look around and chinning everything in sight.

Long story (somewhat) short, Snuggles (who is still awaiting a renaming), came home with us.  The plan was to leave him in the x-pen a few days, but it wound up only being the first night.  As you can see, he’s terribly anxious.    He’s been a binky machine, eating well, being *very* good about the litterbox.  We’re only letting him wander supervised–he seems to have an attraction to wood, but we’re working on that.  He’s still getting used to us and us to him, but I think all will be well (I love a happy ending!)  I’m guessing he’s an American Sable/whatever mix, is supposed to be about 5 months old and weighs, at a guess, about 5 pounds.  Best part was that it wasn’t until we got home that Mike realized TRTBNL (The Rabbit To Be Named Later) was the “diseased” one he’d taken a scunner to.

He’s gorgeous – he reminds me of my very first rabbit Bunbun, who was a sable color – not sure what his breed was, he was a stray…but he had the same gorgeous color of fur that Snuggles has. Bunbun’s fur did eventually darken all over and his points were not as noticeable.

          Congrats on your new addition.

He certainly doesn’t looked diseased anymore, if he ever really did. He is beautiful! I am happy to hear he is acclimating fairly well. Good job! Congrats!

Aww, he’s so cute. I don’t see how he could look diseased! Glad you found a good bun and glad bun found a good home.

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone! And Sarita, Mike has called all three of our rabbits, “Bun-bun” when he talks to them.

I live between Olympia and Tenino, LoveChaCha! Nice to know there’s other bunny addicts nearby. And the folks at the THS are great–how many other Humane Societies hold a monthly Bunny Day Spa where you can bring your bun in for nail-clipping and a massage for no charge and it doesn’t matter if you adopted your bun from there or not? I love those folks’ attitude towards buns!
