Is Cookie neutered?  Boy bunnies will "spray" their pee around to mark off their territory.  If he is peeing on you, he is trying to tell the rest of the male bunnies in the world that you are his.  When males are neutered, their spraying habits usually decrease and their litter box habits get better.

Cookie is not neutered. But I get that he is marking territory but its like he just does is for no good reason.

Yep – it’s territory marking.  "*squirt* This is mine, and *squirt* this is mine, and her – oh she’s *squirt* DEFINITELY mine.  And *squirt* I’m here and everyone should know it because*squirt* I’m a big bad boy bunny!"

Frisco was neutered but still sprayed like a lawn sprinkler – he could hit me at 5′ away!

Hi! o dear, i know how much bunny pee sux   Do you use vinegar to get it out?  I found thats the best way.  And I think once he’s neutered you will definitely see a dramatic decrease, if not a complete pee stoping!

WELCOME COOKIE.   Bunnies ALWAYS have a reason.  Rabbits are prey animals and therefore if they make alot of noise to indicate things they want, then a predator could catch them.    It doesn’t matter that they are safe in our home.   It’s instinctual, and it’s just how they communicate. (usually dies down or completely stops when they are neutered.)  We as humans can build fences and use land markers to show our place.  We can lock our doors to keep our place safe.  To show the public that a person is committed to someone else they may have each other wear a ring. (marriage or promise ring.)   Rabbits don’t do this the human way, so they do things their way.

When a rabbit sprays they are doing it for several reasons –

From a young rabbit’s point of view:

      1. Now that I am reaching sexual maturity and I have become a Big Boy Bunny, I want to ensure my own survival and the survival of my genes by having the best eating area, and all the females.   I will let all other bunnies know that this is my place,  So I will spray my territory and everything in, including the bunnies of my territory, so that other not only intruders know it’s my place, but  so that even my friendly mates also respect that this is my place too.  Plus it will let me know who is part of my warren.
      2.  If I am looking to mate, I better mark my female so that she and everyone knows she’s mine.

      3.  If an intruder or even a friendly mate comes into my territory, I may need to mark them if I feel they are getting aggressive and doing something I don’t like.  They need to know I am the boss of me and stop doing what they are doing.

Also, regarding your other post about him peeing in a specific corner.  You may have to put a litterbox in that corner.

So there are always reasons.  The most annoying time of a bunny’s life is usually when he or she reaches sexual maturity (3 – 6 months) and their hormones are on overload.  This is when their urine also gets pungent!   Though the behavior may slowly decline with age, a bunny can live 10 years or more, and it’s not until they reach over three years old when their destructive behavior naturally may decline. (some never do)    So that’s why neutering is a good idea,  their need to be so territorial usually is much less, and their urine is not so smelly.

Can you put it somewhere near the door?  Near the spot he wants to pee in?  A tip to help him understand where to go is to wipe up his urine with a paper towel, then put that paper towel in the litterbox, then clean the spot in the corner where you don’t want him to pee with vinegar.

You can also try and rub a bit of perfume in the corner where you want him to avoid.   Bunnies don’t like the smell of perfume. (usually)

Does he have full freedom of the room at all times, or does he also have a pen or cage?

he also has a cage. but i open the cage door so he can jump in and out of his cage freely.

      i just got omi neutered..
and i noticed a big difference about him peeing…
he sprayed a lot before but now,
he doesnt spray anymore..(he just pees on the couch)
im from seattle, and i found like a low income
      rabbit neutering place called
      "seattle humane society"
so try to go to google and search for
      a "humane society" place
i only paid $50 for the neutering.
      most places charge $170..
and that’s too much for my budget too..
if you need help looking for it on the internet,
      let me know…
      good luck!

      xoxo,
      donna
