TOFU LITTER?

hi, i have two rabbits django and romeo and ive been using wood pellets for their litter box ( open space) and recently my pet shop to go to ( probably the only pet shop that has quite the range of rabbit essential needs tho still quite limited) has been having trouble importing these wood pellets litter because of my country regulation, so i found this cat litter that is made from drained tofu. naturally i chose the one that does not have any odor , it is made in japan and im just wondering if anyone has heard of it? worst come to worst i am also thinking of making my own paper pellets from used card boards and news paper as another alternatives, because of the exchange rates these things are really expensive.

My main concern with a tofu litter would be if the rabbits try eat it. Also, food based litters can harbour spores that cause respiratory ailments. I do not know if this would be a risk with tofu litter.
Regardless, I would use a screen over this type of litter and change it frequently.

Newspaper can work well as litter. Just change it daily and don’t use newspapers that are too old.
What about bamboo litters? Is there any thing like that available locally?

Do you have pelleted newspaper litter like Yesterday’s News? That might be a good option to try.

What about wood stove pellets? Do people have pellet stoves there? You can go to a hardware or tractor supply store here and buy wood pellets meant to be used in pellet stoves. A lot of people buy them to use as litter. You just have to make sure no accelerant has been added.

I don’t think using wood litter is good for rabbits. At least, that’s what I’ve heard. I use shredded paper. I don’t know about tofu litter…

Wood stove pellets are generally safe. They are usually made from hardwood. You’re thinking of pine and cedar shavings which contain phenols. When rabbits are exposed to them for long periods of time (i.e. used as bedding or litter), the phenols mess with their liver enzymes.

hi thanks for the replies

ive used paper pellets before but again the shop stop selling them thats why i switched to wood pellets. i still have leftovers of the paper pellets just in case. although i find quite a problem with them cos of fly strike. i do try to change them every 2 days. i did keep an eye on them to check if they tried to eat the pellets but thank god they dont try to. thanks for the input , i guess ill keep that home made paper pellets in mind.

the problem is ppl here dont really seriously take care of their pet rabbit thats why their essential supplies are limited and not to mention expensive, cos theres no demand for them. theyre my first bunnies as an adult but i did my research and stuff. theres wide range of food pellets here but theyre surprised when i told them my rabbits are toilet trained, it would never cross their mind that rabbits can be toilet trained. so most of them get those cages with the holes at the bottom .
