We are leaving in about an hour for Christmas travels. 4 hours (5 with stops) to my family, then Christmas morning we are traveling 2 hours from my family to the in-laws, then Saturday we traveling 3 hours from the in-laws to home.
I know it will be fine; I tell others this all the time. But please re-convince me that Pumpkin will be just fine in her little carrier and that it is the safest place for her in the long-run and the bunny butt will only last a minute or two when we get there!![]()

PROMISE! (don’t look behind my back – no ‘crossed finger’s’ to be seen)
LOL!
Good luck with that! ![]()
Look at it this way, if she was at home for the 5 hrs she would probably be asleep in her favourite spot for the same period of time. Have her water bottle full, some hay in the carrier and some tasty greens in the esky for snacks and she should be fine.
She was pretty much terrified the whole trip. Halfway through we rearranged everything so I could sit in the back with her. I opened her carrier and pet her every ten minutes or so. Got to my mom’s and she started exploring eating pooping drinking! I was surprised how fast she warmed up. No bunny butt at all…too much to get into!
That’s wonderful LLH!!! Super dooper happy!
PS – But not the part where she was terrified during the trip – sad face. But all was good in the end, that’s all that matters! She’s with you and HAPPY!
Enjoy your holiday!
I have taken Moshu to my sister’s place. Its a 6-7 hours car journey. They get real stiff with fear. Her pupil contracts. Doesnt drink/eat or respond to anything the entire time. The motion of vehicle is a very unnatural thing for them, I guess. And it takes her 2-3 hours to feel better after we get out from the car.
I think frequent petting is important. They should know they are not left alone .
Glad to hear that the chance to explore “grandma’s” was stronger than the fear of a new place.
I know Pete was freaked out for his first car-ride (about 45 min to his original vet), but has since gotten used to them. Them being able to see you, be petted, and not see too much of what else is going on seems to soothe them quite a bit. They can’t really compensate for the changes in speed or turns, so it’s like sitting through an earthquake that just won’t stop. I have found that the best way to keep Pete relaxed on really long trips–where I can’t sit with him–is to make sure that his carrier faces Zoeys… and/or that his view of the window is blocked off while we’re moving.
Pumpkin seems a lot like Pete, the more I hear about her. He was the same way at his grandma’s house. Must be something about little buns.
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
Trust me, you might prefer them being scared. My Clarice is not afraid of a thing in this world. She tried to play in the car when we first brought her home, and it hasn’t stopped since..
Glad you had a good trip ![]()

My, my..she sounds like a feisty one !
(I might be scared with that, though)
Antika that sounds just like Pumpkin. It. Scared me how little she moved!
Next lag of our journey is Thursday morning three hours.
Pumpkin appreciates all your happy thoughts!

@LLH : Its okay
I am sure even my own phone would auto correct it xD Indian names be slightly complicated.. ^^;;
One question I have, LLH, how cold is it around where you live ? We’ll be leaving on the 27th morning. The weather forecast says maximum would be 17 Celsius and minimum would be 7. Did you carry any baby blankets in the car to keep pumpkin warm ? It must be around 14 celsius inside my home and she’s doing pretty well though.
It’s been around 10-30 degrees fahrinheit, I’m not sure what that coverts to in celsius though. We did put a fleece blanket in the carrier mostly because I figured she might pee while she was in there which she did
It was a little chilly for her in the backseat but I figured that was better than on the floor with the heat blowing on her. She seemed to fine temperature-wise.
This just in; apparently Pumpkin loves Grandma’s house. I was sitting in the living room a bit ago checking some things on the computer and she’s in her mini condo. She rolled over onto her back, wiggled around a bit like she was scratching an itch, then sprawled out to sleep. So cute and content. Told Jared it was the happiest moment of my life and now he’s offended lol
I love it when they do the back wiggle! I’ve seen Kieko roll onto her back twice and Marlee once. I imagine Moshi either hasn’t figured out how yet or sees no point in it!
Speaking of the back wiggle, my dog Mysti (RIP) used to do that on the concrete patio all the time to scratch her back. She was obviously enjoying it one day until I said “You know, we can see you.” She stopped and looked so embarrassed!
This was the first time I’ve seen it JR! Boston never did anything like this. The rolling over in general is so squee-worthy, I wish she would do it all the time!
It is adorable! Marlee’s belly is creamy white and she looked like a white furball with feet sticking out! Too precious!
Well now that we are home and things have settled down I’d thought I’d share the set up Pumpkin had on her road trip. The little Monkey got to visit Iowa AND South Dakota. She’s a well-traveled tiny citizen!
The first two pics were at my mom’s. We set up a miniature condo in the living room so she could be in the center of attention that she is. Jared added that little shelf…I thought it was bad idea at first (was thinking maximum space) but turns out Pumpkin loved it and spent most of her time on it or under it!

At the in-laws Pumpkin got to be in our room which mean she was able to free-roam most of the time. Again, you can see she loved her little shelf. She flopped about about 10 times in two days at the in-laws!! Even did a roll-over flop–my new favorite!
The in-laws have the sweetest little pekinese dog and we tried to introduce them but Pumpkin was terrified, thumping and running circles so we kaboshed that right away!

Thanks for all your kind words for our first road trip! Pumpkin wants you all to know that she is very happy to be home in her giant condo with her own things and own smells! (Even though she got spoiled and even got her own bag of presents at my mom’s!)
