        Free tinnitus-you can have mine.

I have to vent here…it’s ear ringing for anyone who doesn’t have this condition and was going huh?…I didn’t realize it was my ears and not some electrical hum for the first few days.

It’s keeping me up at night. It’s also not quite pulsating (which pulses with your heartbeat and means you have high blood pressure, which would be a relief because lower it and your ringing is gone) but it’s not solid either. More like morse code ringing in my ears  So impossible to habituate too-which all the NEW treatment is…the old treatment was ‘tough luck’ now it’s ‘get used to it’ which sounds like the same thing to me.

So I have to complain and whine  I never listen to loud music and I didn’t go to a bunch of concerts when I was young, always wore hearing protection in the lab…GAH! ANyone else suffer from this? I’m really hoping it’s temporary. Taking my ipod to bed tonight to see if that helps

Did your doctor diagnose you with Tinnitus?
I had to just look this up The cause of it isn’t just loud music. Ear wax, foreign bodies, medications.

          There are really no treatments?

Poor you!!! I had a bad ear infection last winter and it caused ringing in my ear and it drove me nuts so I can imagine how it’s driving you crazy.

I’m not surprised you need to rant! I had it for about a week once due to an infection and it is awful on a temporary basis. *many hugs*

I’ve never heard of it but it doesn’t sound pleasant

I hope it goes away soon and I’m all for free stuff, but you can keep this

I’m so sorry to hear this! My mom had something similar for years and I remember how awful it was for her.

In her case, she’s pretty sure it was caused by working in an office with tons and tons of mold in the walls. So many other people she worked with ended up with asthma, allergies, etc so she’s sure it caused her ear problems too. She never could find anyone who could treat it, but leaving that office helped her get over it eventually (it took years though). Is there anything similar that could be causing your problem?

How long have you had this? Maybe it is caused by an infection and will pass.

I get tinnitus very sporadically and it doesn’t last long enough to send me too crazy. I’m hoping it won’t become more frequent. Usually it’s a very high pitch and I often get an ear pressure change with it. I’m the same too, I’ve not abused my hearing.
I have vague recollection that it can be tied up with dental and sinus health sometimes.

I remember looking after elderly persons who had this. One lady used to sing constantly because it distracted her from the noises in her head.

Some foods can trigger it also. Diets high in salicylates (some veggies and fruit) or meds containing this, like asprin, can induce tinnitus. They can also cause super sensitivity to noise.  I don’t know if additives can contribute but I wouldn’t be surprised. At least if it was caused by diet, you can make changes.
That’s really interesting what Elrohwen said about mold!

I hope yours is temporary and you can find something to help whilst you have it.

I have constant tinnitus and although the everyday background noises will keep it invisible to me, whenever it is time to go to bed I can hear it. What I’ve done is I run a fan at night to create some background white noise to cover the sound up.

Mine was self inflicted by a youth of using power tools from ages 13-25 without always wearing ear protection. The old “Oh, I’ll just drill for a couple of seconds, nothing will happen” excuse isn’t an accurate one.

Little known geek fact – William Shatner has severe tinnitus due to explosions on the set of Star Trek – so severe that he had thought about ending his life a couple of times because of the severe noise of it.

I too have constant tinnitus have since I was 7 years old. Mine is from a combination of antibiotics, constant infections, sinus issues and damage to some nerve thing in my ear from surgery (surgeon was horrible).

I have gotten used to it. Background noise drowns out most of it but I can still hear it and have problems hearing people talk sometimes.

I use a fan at night because if it is too quiet it drives me insane!

My dr wants to do surgery to try to correct it but that won’t be happening.

actually yes, loud noises can bend the cilliia and cause tinnitus but there are other causes too  I just had hoped that by taking care of my ears that would never happen to me

Did your doctor diagnose you with Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a symptom not a disease. So you wouldn’t need a dianosis to say you had a headache, just a dr to say why I’m not looking forward to going in actually wait times are insane here.

Thanks everybody for the well wishes and sympathy and shared stories!!-and the ideas on other possible causes!!! I will have to hit the web and take a close look-it came on so suddenly-like I said I thought it was an electrical thing not my ears!!
