Hi,
My bun is named Sammy. When I adopted him I was told he was a she so I named him Samantha and called him Sammy for short. When I learned she was a he I kept the name Sammy. He just got home from an extended weekend stay at the vet. You see I had always blocked off the small area behind the TV where Sammy loves to go hide because I couldn’t see him back there. However, after the vet said “Rabbits have to have a place to hide” I thought, ok, let him hide. Of course, that was the place he decided to eat carpet. He never eats carpet. Only then. He is really nondestructive. He doesn’t destroy any possessions or the house.
After I discovered what he was doing and got him out it was only a matter of time before he stopped eating. This was right away. It was late at night. I gave him alfalfa just to have something else in his system. Then after that it was nothing else. I wouldn’t take anything. That went on to the morning. Still nothing and no poop. I took him in. After a long stay with an IV, some medications, and monitoring, his eating and pooping habits have begun to return to normal. We are not 100% yet, but almost there.
I swear he is a good bunny. It was my fault for taking the vet too literally. I am really good about keeping an eye on him. He is really good about keeping an eye on me.
So say hi to Sammy. He is the love of my life. I have had him about 2 months now. He is about 10-11 months old. I try to spoil him to the best of my abilities. I just got him a bunny condo that I now have to assemble. I am also clearing out the spare bedroom that is currently used for storage for him to have as his own room. I will put a second desk in there so I will always be with him. He has more toys than he is interested in. His previous owners didn’t even know he is a boy bunny. They told he he was female. He is getting altered next month. Once the spare bedroom is up I may think about getting him a a companion, once my housemate warms up to the idea. But that will be later on.
He wasn’t given a proper diet before I got him. I have him eating more hay now, but I am not sure he is at 80%. I know he is not. Alfalfa helps. He likes orchard and even a little botanical. We are working towards an 80% timothy diet. I have made progress. Getting there. I love him more than anything. I am pretty sure he loves me. That is unless the running circles around me is just his way of telling me he want me to give him baby bunnies.
In the morning and night he gets a small helping of romaine with a little parsley or cilantro. He loves that. His pellets are cut down to about 1/4 cup, split between morning and night. This set up comes from my vet and it has helping increase his hay intake. He gets the occasional baby carrot. Everyone once in a while a strawberry or grape. He likes his small pet treats which are rare. He has learned he can hop over just about anything so really he is his own man. I have never heard him grumble. He loves to binky. He also really likes to drop and fall to his side and just crash like life is grand. That tells me I am doing something right.
