Thinking about Getting a Bunny

  Hello Everyone!  I’m new to this forum so tell me if I put this in the wrong place.  I’m thinking about getting a Bunny, but some people said they don’t enjoy having a bunny!  Do you guys enjoy having a Bunny?  I’m not sure I’m ready for that big of commitment.

What is not to enjoy ? They are the most adorable beautiful souls on the planet.

You are correct though, they are a commitment. For those that love bunnies it doesn’t feel like one however. It feels like you have gained a couple of best friends.

I think it depends on how much you mind a more high maintenance pet.

Things you may consider.
Do you mind hay finding it’s way around your house?
Need to provide fresh produce daily.
Needs a fairly large space in your home.

May need to house train, may need to spay/neuter if they haven’t been already.

Need to bunny proof your home-wires and other dangerous chewables.

Bunny may chew your belongings.

Like all pets-medical expenses need to be considered.

They are gentle sweet creatures and can be a joy if you don’t mind taking care of all their needs.

I enjoy and love my rabbit with all of my heart. She’s my baby and an absolute joy to me. But, rabbits are a commitment, just like any other animals! They need a large cage and time to run around and play, toys, food, maintenance like brushing and nail trimming, vet check ups and if their is a health emergency that vet bill too.
Rabbits can be very rewarding though, and having a bond with one is very special, it almost feels like magic. I think it’s very responsible of you to do research and really think about if you are ready before deciding to buy or adopt a bunny.

(NOTE: If you adopt a bun from the shelter it usually saves you the cost for spay/neuter and you know they are in relatively good health )

It depends on your personality. If you want a pet to hold or cuddle, a rabbit is likely not the pet for you. They also will destroy stuff – what they destroy varies from bunny to bunny. You can’t just leave them for a couple of days alone either. I love mine, but the number of them that wind up in shelters shows they’re not for everyone. I second Moxie – adopt!! Spaying/ neutering is just one of the many benefits – shelter staff will help you find a bunny who fits well with your lifestyle and personality.

Hi there!

I must say I was sceptic about a bunny… but after doing research and visiting pet shops and shelters I found my bun!
It is really a blessing to have such a cute creature around, YES he can be a pain in the …. I mean like really. He has ruined my designer bag, different chargers and some blankets. But after all that was kinda my fault, It was my responsibility to keep these things out of its reach.

Please don’t think because bunnies are available at pet shops, that they will be as easy to care for as hamsters etc.
To be honest, my bunny is as much work as my dog. (well the dog at my parents place haha)
He will ask for attention, needs daily care and a lot of supervision.

If you choose to live with your bun inside your house, they need to be trained. And this can take some time. But you will get a lot of love in return!

My bun is from a private animal shelter, this helped me out a lot! I’m a student so I needed a bun who wasn’t afraid of loud noises and he cuddles a lot too.

Because of the private animal shelter they could give me some insight about his character and they gave me the option to return him if our personalities didn’t fit.

My bun loved being picked up for cuddles too until she was about 10 months old….. now I have to lie down with her to get my cuddle – no more picking up….
Luckily I have a very cuddly cat !!
Strangely enough out of my household which has 1 cat, 1 dog and 1 rabbit, yes the rabbit takes the most looking after, eats the most varied food and has the most ‘furniture’ taking up most of the place…. LOL
