So as most of you might already know, I’ve been trying to find a bunfriend for Harlow.
The first bunny was a 3 year old male neutered Mini Lop. After a very successful home visit, his owner realized how hard it was to actually give him up, so he ended up staying at his home.
The second bunny was a male neutered Holland Lop. The lady agreed to a meet time and a price, and I was sooo excited and happy. I told her how much it hurt when the other lady backed out. Sure enough, the lady blocked me and I was once again hurt and let down.
My aunt messaged me and told me her next door neighbor had a bunny she wanted to sell, and I got so excited. I called the girl, and came over a few hours later. She had the male lop I’ve been searching for!! When I got there, I knew the situation I was in was much different than I thought it was.
This lady had so many pets. If i remember correctly, 7 cages in her living room alone, all with different animals. She told me that he hadn’t been out in about 6 months. She told me his favorite snacks were strudels, strawberry pop-tarts, grape fruits, and spaghetti. She also said that he doesn’t eat hay because he doesn’t like it. He’d rather have his sweets. She even gave him a chunk of strawberry strudel. I wanted to cry. She told me that if he eats too many fruits and veggies he gets diarrhea. She also mentioned he had bad allergies and sneezes a lot and gets goopy eyes, but kept him in the shavings anyways.
When I got home, we set him up his own C&C cage. I bought him a hay tunnel, and put three different hay types in his new litter box. I also gave him Red Romaine Lettuce and some blue berries. He immediately went for the hay. He loves it! And poor guy hadn’t had it his entire time there!! We re-named him Luke. We trimmed his horridly long nails, cleared the matted fur on his feet and butt. He’s so so so sweet. He loves cuddles and you can just pet him all day long and he wont protest. It’s very clear to me that the reason these two deals fell through is so I could bring this baby home. I think he needed us.
I’m really concerned about his diet switch though :/ The lady gave me a strudel to give to him but there is NO WAY i’m letting my bunny eat that! I’m not going to give him any of the foods she was, but I don’t want such a big diet change to make him sick. He was pretty much on a non-bunny diet. Not getting the things that he needs. What do you guys suppose I do? He’s getting a check up ASAP. I’m calling my vet tomorrow when I get home from school.
