And my thyroid did have a small 1cm bit of cancer. So now I’m glad I actually went through with the operation! I will go talk with both the surgeon and the radiologist next monday for a checkup and to discuss what further treatment I will have to have. If I have to have radioactive iodine I think I’m going to have less fun with that than I had with the surgery!  I mean, 3 days of no contact with other people (possibly in the hospital too!) and 7 not being able to sleep in the same bed as my boyfriend. Plus I won’t be able to take care of any of my animals for 3 days, maybe more since the radiation would probably have more effect on them than other large people (I think I’ll go with the 7-10 day child and pregnant woman avoidance recomendation). I will also have to have my own bathroom, and flush the toilet 3 times after I do my business. Gah, this is all so weird. I didn’t think I would have to deal with cancer until I was at least 80, and was hoping never! I know that much younger children have much worse types of cancers though. I really am thankful that this is all I have! It’s just weird.

My mom bought me a bunch of beautiful silk scarves from Thailand off ebay to cover up my neck and prevent the sun from making the scar worse. Too bad summer scarves were the in thing last year. Maybe I’ll bring it back!

Good thing they’ve caught it. Will you have to have that treatment as a preventative measure or can they test to see they’ve got it all?

My best friend just had the radioactive iodine treatment, she said she expected to be feeling really odd afterwards but it wasn’t bad at all. And she was okay with being off work for a few days after She was disappointed that she wasn’t glowing though, she thought that would have been cool. As for the scarves, they’re always chic!

I really hope everything is gone. Keep us posted on what the docs say. Hugs!

Let us know if you develop any cool radiation-induced super powers!

Healing Vibes to you. You’ll just have to give your animals lots of extra hugs before your treatment.

Oh, that would be so cool! But at the same time, if I glowed in the dark that would take away my ninja skills! Maybe I’ll be able to communicate with rabbits telepathically! Anyways, I’ve been doing research on the Iodine 131. It is one of the dangerous elements released during a nuclear explosion (either at a power plant or from a bomb). In doing this research I’ve come up with a cool, but unlikely (or at least not backed up by science) theory. As noted before, Iodine 131 is a leftover element from a nuclear explosion. Well my dad is 50 years old and lived in Las Vegas, just a short 65 miles away from the Nevada testing site where they set off these bombs. That means he was born in 1958, and was somewhere around 8-10 years old when his family moved there (so let’s say 1967). Research has shown that it was not just the radiation landing on people, but it also affected the food and water sources (such as the milk from affected cows). My parents had a very hard time conceiving a child, and I was the only one that didn’t end up in a miscarriage (we adopted my sister). It was due to two problems; my mom had some problems, but my dad also had a low swimmer count. One of the potential side effects for males for the treatment I will undergo is a reduced swimmer count. Now who is to say that of the remaining swimmers they weren’t in some way also affected by the Iodine 131? Sure, it might be a stretch, but I think it’s interesting.

Anyways, I also find that it is so weird that I’m taking a drug that actually causes thyroid cancer. I am still having some second thoughts about taking it because of that. I am supposed to go in for the dose on the 13th of July, with an iodine free diet starting on the 6th of July.
