I’ve been living in the Interior of Alaska for almost 16 years now, and I have to say, barring the first year we were here, I’ve not seen as much snow as I have today, nor have I ever seen it come down like this for so long. Since yesterday we’ve had a bit of a blizzard come through the Fairbanks area and it’s piling it high and deep. The wind is pushing it at between 10-40 MPH to boot, which is staggering.
Alaska is officially suffering drought that has gone on for years now. Hence why we had such bad forest fires for the last 5-6 years. My guess is, even with this dumping, we’ll still be below proper totals for our region.
Today I look outside and realize that if I took Jenna out to go potty (actually last night we were getting this sinking feeling) that I would never find her again, it seems more like a 5 feet out there compared to the 6-8 inches they forecast. Hubby got a dozer and plowed, but if the snow keeps coming by tonight most of his work will be for naught. And the roofs still need to be raked.
I don’t know how he’s going to get to town for supplies tomorrow, honestly…you can hardly get one car down the road as it is, and with it being a holiday, naturally, plowing even for the state is almost at a standstill.
I have no idea if the main road is even passable. But our subdivision’s dirt roads are maintained only privately, if at all. And I hate it when it gets like this.
I officially told the bunnies and the other animals last night that no one is alowed to get sick now until past thaw.
We’d never get them through to the vet.
