Is anyone growing a garden this summer? Planting in containers? Share what you’re growing and any pictures you have as your plants grow!

I’m really excited about having my first garden. I had success with tomatoes in containers last year and now that I have some land DH helped me build two 4×8 raised beds for veggie growing (I’d like to expand with 2-4 more beds eventually). I bought all of the seedlings from the store, but I’m going to try some things from seed, probably for the fall season, and I’d like to do more from seed next year. I’m growing (roughly in this order, from front to back in the picture) lettuce, parsley, acorn squash, zucchini, summer squash, peppers (red bell, jalapeno, banana, and cubanelle), basil, tomatoes (3 bigger varieties, one cherry), broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. I’m worried the last three won’t be ready before it gets too hot for them, but we’ll see.

I have compost beds I am currently planting tomatoes in. I will put photos up when I get time this weekend.
Since mothers day I have planted 200 packets of flowers. I know- i’m crazy. lol
Our greenhouse got DESTROYED, glass everywhere,from that tornado a few months back thats what i have to clean up soon…yay…
Plus i planted about 12 different types of greens. YUM

Our garden keeps getting bigger and bigger every year! So far tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli, walla walla onions, scallions, green beans, egg plant, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, cauliflower, corn, bell peppers, mixed lettuce, spinach, chives, celery (yuck),  strawberries, cabbage, pumpkins, and an assortment of herbs. Whew! 

We don’t use pesticides or anything but have had great success with planting marigolds around the garden. Nobody (except for some bugs) touches our plants! I’ll take a picture after we plant the marigolds tomorrow.

Sarita that yellow thingy is so cool! I’ve never seen a plant like that before, how tall do you think it is?

Pandora, I’ve had that rabbit thing for a very long time and I have no idea where or when I acquired it.

 Bunnyfriend, Chihuly is a glass designer, I believe he is from Washington.  He did alot of stuff for the Las Vegas Bellagio Hotel.

since I live in apartment with a sun room, I garden in pots! It is going super well! Lettuce is really thriving at the moment I am going to plant some romaine tonight. I’m going to buy more pots, so I can plant more romaine – enough for Chacha and I. i want to enjoy apartment grown lettuce I hear it is so juicy!

We had an absurdly warm spring in Chicago, so I was able to get started on my SkyFarm early this year.  The greens I got as “starter plants” are pretty much ready to harvest, and the ones from seed are plenty big enough to transplant into their places.  I do several kinds of lettuces and salad greens and LOTS of mints (the descendants of 3 plants I bought 3 years ago), lemon balm, basil, thyme and sage.  I’ve also got a few waves of carrots (rainbow and regular) in containers, and I have calendula, and lemon verbena, and this year’s “experimental crops” are sugar snap peas (because I think I figured out what I did wrong last time) and stevia. The stevia got some kind of mold early on but I picked off the diseased leaves a few weeks ago and rinsed it in a vinegar/water solution and it seems to be coming back

 Don’t forget that bunnypoo makes awesome fertilizer!

I love hearing about everyone’s gardens. And Sarita, that Chihuly is amazing! The Pittsburgh Conservatory had a huge exhibit with his stuff mixed in with the plants and it was beautiful, but I’ve never seen one that spectacular.

I love the container gardens too. I wish I had done more in containers while living in my townhouse – I had a patio that faced full west, but I didn’t start growing things on it until the last year when I had tomatoes.

We have plated a garden the past few years. This year we are moving so we might not beable to enjoy the veggies once they come up. We have a fenced in garden and it also has two raised bes in it. This year we are growing, strawberries, lettuce, spring mix, collard greens, sugar snap peas, parsley, basil, swiss chard, mint, and i think thats it. All of it is for the bunnies except the peas. I planted all by seeds so most have not come up yet. I will post a picture when I have the chance. This is the first year I planted it without my dad so I hope it works!

Mocha, I just planted a bunch of seeds and I’m excited to see if they come up. I took the safe way out and mostly started with plants from a garden center, but I figured carrots and lettuce couldn’t be too hard to start from seed. I also have some broccoli and spinach seeds, but I’m saving those for the fall since it’s already a bit warm for them to start from seed.

Just took some pictures of my garden! I didn’t know some of my seeds have sprouted yet! I am very excited!

 Here is an overview of my garden. If we were going to be living here longer I would fix some things on it (like the door that’s falling off, but it still closes!)

 

Here are the strawberries (in the front) and behind is where I grow my lettuce.

Here are some lettuces that came up early this year with out me planting them. This is Bibb lettuce I believe.

 

and this is Spring mix.

 

In the first raised bed I have Mint on the far left and parsley, basil, Swiss chard, and I think maybe catnip growing from seeds. (the hose connects to the sprinkler for the garden.)

 

Here is the mint on the end. some of it is lighter and some is darker so I think some of it is basil. What do you guys think?

 This is the second raised bed. (sorry for the bin that is in the way. I threw all the weeds and stuff in there! )

In the second raised be I have 3 chamomile plants that came up on their own, (forgot I planted them last year I guess)

 

And sugar snap peas! (The only thing not for the bunnies)

Sorry for all the pictures I got carried away! I got inspired and am going to go out and do some weeding and raking. My garden needs it!

I have planted lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage, spinach, strawberries, zucchini, asparagus, kohlrabi, kale, various squashes and an herb garden. No pictures unfortunately.

I have also planted a flower garden this year as well.

All of my plants start from seeds I am horrible at replanting so i always start with seeds.

I have 5 different types of herbs planted for my bun, and jonhny jump ups =] My parents will also be growing tomatoes, asparagus, peppers and prob some other things.

I took some photos this week of my deck garden.  With our wacky spring weather, it’s about a month ahead of usual.

 That’s carrots in the box on the left, mixed greens in the box on the right, the mid-layer is 2 mints, lemon verbena and stevia, and the bottom is rosemary, thyme, sage, and more carrots.

Maybe I should water her?

(Whatever I planted in that container didn’t come up, and she took to sitting in it.  I planted some plain grass seed in there last night so we’ll see what happens)

I’ve started my ‘bunny garden’ just before it hits winter down here. I had an array of seeds that I bought months ago but didn’t have the motivation to plant them out, last weekend I bought some snow pea seedlings from the local farmer’s market, got a bag of potting mix last night and planted them in an unused pot this morning… I then sowed some coriander (cilantro) seeds in the empty seedling container and used 2 empty plant trays to sow bok choy and chinese celery seeds in them and they’re all in my little greenhouse where it’ll hopefully be warm enough for them to germinate. I also got some Rocket (Arugula) seeds today and will be sowing them too. Unfortunately I don’t have enough room for proper garden beds so pots and polystyrene boxes are it.

I am a new bun owner so I have started small this year. I have mint, parsley and basil I’m growing in pots on my deck. I just planted them last Wednesday (the day before my buns were neutered!) and they are taking off quite well. I bought plants instead of seeds because I figured I’d have better luck with them (not much of a green thumb here). The boys (Frank and Beanz) already like all three so I’m pretty happy with what I chose to start with. I do have a quick question…is Bok Choy hard to grow? And is it ok to feed it every day? Because they really like that and I’d like to give it a shot.
