        … temporarily anyhow.🥰

Babysitting two Bettas and a G.Pig.

Family finally gets to go back to Germany for the month, so happy thoughts all their critters do well here, getting spoiled ( they’re on vacation too…extra goodies!)

How exciting! I will mention that guinea pigs and rabbits can uniquely pass things to each other than can be dangerous, so be sure to keep them separate!

@Wick care to elaborate on the Guinea pig and rabbit transmission? We don’t house them together at the rescue, but they share exercise pens without issues. Certain buns and guinea pigs don’t get along though, so it’s assessed individually.

I think it is just Bordetella? Bordetella bronchiseptica is in rabbit respiratory systems and typically doesn’t cause illness, but I believe if passed onto guinea pigs, they are more likely to be negatively impacted, rather than it being asymptomatic/harmless. My assumption is this sort of transmission wouldn’t occur unless there is more intimate contact, but I think the added behavioral piece that some might not get along makes me go to the “safe” route of just keeping them separate.

How fun! Feel free to post pics of your houseguests! 🙂

Do they have German citizenship? As far as I know they don’t let anyone in unless they’re citizens or have an urgent reason?

Yes, they were born in Germany.  Haven’t been home in so long, time to visit family.

Ooo I love pet sitting! I once pet sat for a friend and his giant redtail catfish. I mean I had to go to his house because this dude is 5 feet long and 165lbs so I couldn’t exactly bring him home! Right now I’m petsitting a tiny Maltese, 2 Macaw parrots, and 3 Woma pythons (my dream snake).

                          Wow, womas are pretty.

                          What kind of macaws?

I love Woma’s. The bite not so much but I can get over that lol.

My dad had one for a long LONG time. He rescued him from an abuse situation. He was an amazing bird. I grew up with birds and wish my landlord would let me have one permanently.

Oh wow, a Spix, so rare!   I remember a Nature episode that was requesting owners of these birds to turn them over for breeding programs as they are virtually extinct.

                                  Pics please!!!!

Her Spix is part of a breeding program. I will ask if I can take a picture of him. He is gorgeous. I’d never heard of them and thought she just had a really cool-looking blue parrot. I know nothing about them other than her super long care sheet. I remember her telling me she had to have a federal permit just to own him.  I will say of the two Macaws he is by far the loudest. Lol.

@Sonn – OMG, wow! That’s a huge catfish. Where on earth does he keep it – in the bathtub? Lol.

Lol the bathtub would be way way too small. He has a custom 3,000-gallon “tank” built as an extension onto his house. He has to hire professional aquarium divers to clean it. I could not begin to imagine the cost of keeping this dude.

I’m glad they get to go. I was hoping I could go for my dad’s birthday next month, but with the travel restrictions it’s not going to happen. 🙁

The piggy is a sweet older boy.  He lost his brother suddenly last year.  He gets lots of extra goodies from me.

                                                      – Aaww, your furbabies are adorable! I was actually going to pet sit my aunt’s two baby buns for six months a while back, but things ended up changing. Probably for the best, since neither buns were fixed and they were both male. I’d have to deal with LOADS of fighting and crazy hormones through those six months, and I didn’t want that.
