I think the newpaper daily delivery wakes me up, because I often awaken around 5AM, pad out in my slippers to get the paper out of the driveway, drop it on the kitchen table for anyone to read and try to go back to sleep.

Two mornings ago at that time there were 2 brown lawn bunnies hanging out in our driveway. Well, one hopped into the (deserted) road, so I walked casually toward him to get him to run across into the grass for safety. The other one hopped down the sidewalk, and eventually went for breakfast under a bush.

The next day I came home around 5PM, only to fine 2 adult snails hanging out on the front walk, along with a teeny, tiny baby snail. I picked all 3 up and moved them under the bushes.

(I supposed I should mention that little geckos are routinely all over the walk, driveway, yard and house, but they are common here.)

My Dad said word is out among the beasts of the field that it’s safe haven at our house.

Anyone else have some please encounters lately with beasties in their vicinity?

There was a bunny on our patio eating bird seed. The birds are so ridiculously messy and a ton of seed ends up on the ground. He was out there munching on the seed. I felt a little bad since there probably isn’t much else for him to eat right now. He has taken up residence under the shed. It’s nice having a bunny out there again. Something happened to the last one living under there and we hadn’t seen any bunnies for awhile.

We don’t have any wild rabbits in town, just out in the country. We did have a moose and her 2 calves come into our driveway to eat the remaining berries last winter and I got some cool pictures Hopefully she’ll come back again.

For the most part, dogs just show up on our front step and bark to be let in the house…. I really do think we have a becon on our house saying “two vet techs live here” And it’s not like we see these dogs always loose walking by and then take them. Just one day we will hear barking outside, open the door, and a dog runs in and makes himself at home It happens once every month or so.

We have snails that live on our front walkway. It’s weird, they’re always by our door and never across the way at the other apartment. it’s like they know We try our hardest to dance around them and not step on them…

Yes true Malp is our Dr. DooLittle.   That is something they just show up bark and come right on in.  They must have a communication of some sort going on.

Awe little bunnies under your shed again how cool  RP.

I love these stories.   Lifted up my day.

Aww, I wish I had wild bunnies in my area! I don’t normally see much wildlife (probably since I live in the middle of a city haha) but back at my parents’ house we have a lot of whitetail deer although it’s a pretty developed suburban area. A few days ago, in the middle of the afternoon (when the deer are usually hidden away) I almost got run over on my parents’ driveway by a big buck and a dog hot on his heels! I figured the dog probably had no chance of catching the buck, but hopefully neither of them got hit by cars. Not sure what a domestic dog would do with a deer anyways…

my patio is full of bunny and quail poop,.,, i will go out after the winter rains and vaccuum it up.

you cant really sweep because the pills fall in the cracks between the blocks.

since this past weekend though , we have a new visitor watching in the back yard.

luckily the shrub next to the food block is getting to a decent size, and the critters can take cover

Our deer will stand 3 feet from our door and don’t budge when we open it. “My” crow, comes down and lands on our deck rail and does the male mating call to let me know he’s ready for some bread. And my husband usually gets an escort of a wild bun or two going up the driveway when he heads to work–they amble in front of his truck–no fear at all, no tail flip–they know we wouldn’t hit them. We’re a safe haven for wildlings.

Baby moose who was orphaned around Thanksgiving and wandered our yard for weeks before finding another cow moose who ‘adopted’ him and showed him the ropes about what to eat and when.

Haven’t seen the two of them in awhile. Hope they are okay.

ETA: okay…no idea why the pix aren’t showing up. Photobucket has made sharing images ridiculously difficult. >

We have mainly squirrels at my house- One is super friendly and tried to come in the door.. My mom on the other hand, her other name should be mother nature. We had two cats find us (actually 3 but he was being attacked by other animals so we took him to humane society for a better life). Deer that ate our pine trees one bad winter. They still visit for the corn and fruit she puts out. Lots of squirrels. One particularly she calls “Orange Julius” that frequently takes the oranges she leaves out. I teased her that her squirrels are more orange than brown. We also had issues with raccoons and then the overly friendly opossum.

MM, Photobucket seemed to have changed last year some time, but if you get to the uploaded pix, on the right there are 4 choices. just click the html one and it automatically copies. That seems to work for me.

Mike – That is a Cooper’s Hawk. Their prey of choice is small birds. They use the cover of vegetation to surprise their prey. Small animals typically aren’t on the menu, but they will go after them if they are having difficulty finding the birds they like to eat.

We saw a raccoon slinking into the storm drain the other night. My husband said he saw what he thought we raccoon prints by the mailbox. I didn’t look at them, so I didn’t confirm this. The raccoon itself was the confirmation I ended up with. =p

I’ve recently adopted some deer lol-there are two moms with two babies (Though a little grown now) who ‘live’ in our yard (Well, they spend a lot of time here and often sleep here so I’ve declared that they live here). We’ve had a really unseasonably cold winter so I bought deer food and have been putting a bit out for them, with a bit of hay as I have so much….I have pictures on my mom’s camera and need to get over there to upload them-I’d love to share! Mikey doesn’t even wake us up when they come now, he’s totally over it!
We haven’t seen our moose in a while but Dave saw him with a lucky female a few weeks ago down the hill.

At a park nearby I have seen rabbits in the evening.  Lots of tortoises too.  Don’t see many rabbits tho.

Well I do see a lot of Cotton   lol.  So I guess I could say I see a lot of a particular bunny.

I think its neat to have some staying nearby RP.   And that bird on the fence looks like a nice area.

Our moose are probably in danger now as hunting regs have been upgraded to take antlerless moose.
This means anything’s a target. Especially from people who like to shoot out of season. A nearby ‘person’ I am certain killed Bambi’s mum and sibling. (Not the Disney one, that’s what we named the wee moosie) You always know because suddenly bottle rockets go off. >_< Trying to mask the gunshots.

Thanks Pam, yeah I’ve tried those links and for some reason I can’t get them to work. I’m going to have to move all my photos elsewhere so if you have a recommendation I’ll take it!

This morning was the first time I’ve slept through till 6 in weeks. I am a little sick, so meds kept me snoozing. Feel better for it.
I hate moose hunting. I love moosies, and it’s just so awful to think of them, or deer or any other beautiful wild creature, being shot for sport. Sorry, but I doubt there are too many hunters on this post today. If you are, please respectfully do not engage in a debate about it here. Thanks.

MM, there may be but I can’t think of one at the moment. I think BB or another FL came up with a way that might be posted in the Tech Forum. I just haven’t learned it yet. I know a few folks are less happy with Photobucket last year. Everyone keeps tweaking software, and it’s often not an improvement. My cousin raved about Dropbox, but i haven’t found it easier at all. Maybe Picasa?

Just googled and it said “image sharing with iCloud for iphone”. Is that your device now? I think if you go backwards, starting with a search in your device’s website and ask how to share images to here or any website, you might find something that works for you. Let me know.

Oh Pam, I hope you’re feeling better. I didn’t know you were ill. ((((((((((((((((((((((((quick recovery vibes)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

If I find something I’ll let you know. In fact I can imagine everyone here might like a better photo hosting site. I don’t have iMac or iPhone, my laptop is a Samsung. My daughter has an iPad2 but her photo workshop broke quite a while ago and she’s too worried about leaving it with our local geeks to have it fixed. (Poor thing, don’t know what she did to entertain herself before getting this gadget, she won’t be parted with it now.)

And sorry…I wasn’t trying to start a hunting debate. I am simply angry at the locals for taking those moose. But I’m glad the wee one was able to figure out how to survive by watching the elder who wandered through. They are such goofy looking creatures but they’ve got brains! They’re so cool to watch too, you just have to not get close or you’ll become a pancake!
I’ll have to share the quick sketch daughter did of the baby moose walking by the kitchen window if I ever get said photobank to work. It’s just a cartoon really but you’d have to have seen the cute little fuzzy mugwump to understand how irresistible it’s ears would’ve been had we been able to open the glass!

Hello snuggles to Sammy from me!

There is on opposum that lives somewhere in my area, I keep seeing him trundling along at night. I keep trying to get him to stay in one place for a picture, but he doesn’t seem to have a desire to be friends. We also have some bats living in the carport. When I lived in San Marcos you could walk around certain buildings near dusk and hear the colonies making their little noises.

My black lab mix recently found a baby bunny, like itty bitty. lucky she’s incredibly sweet and gentle, when we got it from her there wasn’t a scratch on it. We went back into the brush behind our house to see if we could find a burrow or something, but no luck. We ended up giving it to our friend who has a bunch of rabbits, as far as I know its doing alright.
we also have a ton of deer in our yard, especially during the winter when my Papa feeds all the leftover apples to them

Becca get some aquarium air tubing, slice it in half to fit around the cord, and duct tape it on. That’s what I do to keep my cat from chewing my cords. Also if they do chew through it’s easy to splice the cord and reconnect the good parts if you have a friend/parent savvy in electrical wiring. It voids the warranty, but then again so do mice and cat teeth

Nice photos! Moose are awesome animals.

We don’t have any wild land mammals larger than rats near my house. I got a photo of what I *think* is a Crested Serpent Eagle, but I’m not sure since it was so far away I had to use max zoom and that always blurs the shots. It was on top of a telephone pole in my neighbors field.

Yesterday I went on a hike with my parents and came across some monkeys. Didn’t get any good photos of them since they fear people and scattered to hide. This photo is my favorite because the monkey deliberately hid behind that branch when it saw me aiming my camera his way, but was curious and wanted to watch me so it was peeking out. Same problem as the eagle photo, it was at max zoom, so it’s not a clear photo.

I hope nobody has a fear of spiders…this one was on my dads car. I have dozens of photos of this same type of spider, they’re everywhere, and they are large.

It looks like an old world monkey, so not the Western Hemisphere.

I live in Taiwan(next to China), the monkey is called a Formosan Rock Macaque. The one in the photo is from a national park about 45 minutes from my house.

I love monkeys, but have only seen ones in the wild in Costa Rica. Macaques are naughty little things judging from all the videos online where they are stealing stuff from people. Hehe!
