Hi Everybody!
I just wanted to give an update on my adventures with Rocky, and I want to say thanks to everybody on this site for all the info and help I’ve gotten here! I have Rocky’s ‘house’ set up in the kitchen, and inside he has a corner for a mini litter box (the corner he chose, of course), he has a corner with his water bottle (and bowl now), a corner where he likes to sleep, and in the last corner I bury some pellets for him to dig and eat. I’ve been adapting things so that he’s happy – for instance, I used to put his pellets into the bowl but he would flip it over and just eat off the floor, so I don’t bother putting them in a bowl anymore. I even bury some food pellets in another ‘hidey place’ in his bedding that he finds and eats, too. I think he likes it better that way…
I have another ‘main’ litter box set up for him to use and for a while he was grabbing it and trying to move it away from the wall so that he could have a straight path along the wall (I think this is why). I would go up to him when he was moving it, put it back against the wall and say “No!” until he stopped, then I’d walk away. I only had to do this twice, and he has stopped trying to move it. He still moves along his straight path along the wall, but now with an extra hop in and then a hop out of the litter box. I get so happy when he does that because he really listened to me and he remembers I don’t want him moving it around.
He has not had any accidents or even made any stray poops anywhere in the house since introducing this litter box, and I am amazed at how quickly he has learned! We brought him in a week ago today (he was dumped on the street by a previous owner or pet store, not sure) and though he is still not very social, he is finally exploring the apartment (since he’s not making a mess we let him roam around while we are home to watch him. He has found a few places that we need to better ‘bunny proof’ which we’ll take care of as soon as possible, and Rocky has his first vet appointment on Friday! I’m excited to speak with the vet (she is a rabbit specialist here on Long Island) and to learn about how old he is and what else she can tell me!
Thanks again to everybody!
