Yesterday morning I noticed Terry was acting a little off but still ate his morning veg quite happily, so I decided to monitor him a bit but didn’t stress too much because he always has been super moody/sensitive.

But then later in the day he had stopped eating and was lying down uncomfortably. I felt his belly gently and it felt a bit bloated. A few minutes after that he did a heap of poos, but lying down uncomfortably while he did. The poos were almost normal size, normal shape, and only a little softer than normal.

I’m a bit broke right now from vet bills for my cat the other week. But my regular vet agreed to a consult last night where I pay the consult at the time, and the rest today (which I have already done) as soon as my pay came through.

The vet gave Terry some antibiotics, pain relief, and something to get his gut moving, and prescribed a lot more of it along with critical care.

It’s now this morning. Terry has had more antiobiotics, pain med, and something to help get his gut moving. And more critical care because he needs to have all of that with food.

Unfortunately overnight he did not improve – I got 50ml of critical care into him (over the night not all at once) and syringed some water into him too. When he first got back from the vet he did a few small poos while lying down but none since that I can tell – it’s possible he has done a little one or two but I can’t say for sure because his friends are pooping everywhere now too.

So if he doesn’t improve in the next couple of hours then I’ll be contacting a different local rabbit savvy vet who offer vet pay to book xrays, which was the next suggested step. I’m not sure what has caused this for Terry but a likely scenario with him was somehow eating something he shouldn’t and I’m concerned there might be a blockage.

Right now I’m monitoring and trying to keep him warm as I think his body temp is still low – my thermometer picked last night to stop working!

I’ll update here when I can.

P.S. I have been up with him all night so if I make no sense, it’s because I’m on the slightly tired side.

That’s good that he is taking the critical care and producing a couple poops. Even so, I agree that it sounds like a good plan with the x-ray being the next step if he doesn’t start pooping more. Hopefully the motility drug will really help. Please keep us updated. Sending many vibes! ((((Terry))))

No more poops yet so I have stopped the critical care (apart from with his medication) and have just been syringing water for the last couple of hours. He isn’t happy though and isn’t looking too comfy. So I have applied for vet pay, should take a couple of hours to hear back from them and then I can make an appointment for xrays. Fingers crossed!

Did he get sub-q fluids last night too? When you go for x-rays, I’d request sub-q’s as they can really help perk a bun up . Fingers and paws crossed!

Sadly it turns out it was something worse than GI stasis. Terry had tumors and end stage kidney failure. He crossed Rainbow Bridge very peacefully.

He will always be remembered as the trouble making rabbit who instantly bonded with Ogg, and then Maggie, through his sheer determination to jump super high barriers. He was the rabbit who would get up onto the high shelves and knock things down for the other rabbits to play with. He was also the peacemaker, able to make friends with Greebo and Lily as well as Maggie.

I’m sorry your turn came so soon Terry.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that, what a horrible shock.

I read your bonding journals before attempting my trio, and Terry sounded like such a special bunny!

I’m so sorry Bianca. I really thought he was going to pull through ok . If it is any comfort at all, at least he passed peacefully. I know you, Lily, Maggie, and Greebo will miss him dearly.
