Temporary Full Cage Bedding?

I recently lost a job due to the owner losing the building and I haven’t received a check yet for the remaining hours I worked. Therefor, I don’t have the funds to buy bedding for my little Bambina until I can find another job. So my question is what can I use for bedding? To give a little insight..

The cage is relatively small because Bambina is still a baby, I use CritterCare Bedding for the entire cage. I don’t have a litter box for her, so it’s kinda wherever she goes she goes bathroom wise. But I don’t leave that soiled bedding in there because I don’t want the ammonia from her pee to effect her. So I’m in between a rock and a hard place trying to find something to use temporarily until I can get new bedding. Any suggestions?

Some good news, you shouldn’t need to buy bedding. Ever.
If you put a litterbox in her cage with some litter or just newspaper in it, put some hay in there and she *should* take toileting just there.
With full cage bedding, they tend to use the whole thing like a litter box.

Rabbits usually like bare floors. Did she used to push bedding aside to lay on cage floor before?

You could use folded cotton bedsheets, towels, fleece or sheets of cardboard to line the cage but many rabbits like to pee on soft absorbent things, particularly if not litter trained.
Personally I wouldn’t add anything until she’s taken to using a box.

 If her cage is large enough for a litter box, then you should start using one.  Since you said it was a small cage, you may not be able to fit a litter box in there, so you could try some of the following.  It really would be best to get her a larger cage or an x-pen and start training her to use the litter box.

If you have any small fleece blankets, you could put one of those in the bottom of her cage, then wash it (each day?). You would need to have more than one, so she would have something to use while the other one is being washed. You could also use a towel, but those are more dangerous if they chew on them and ingest the fibers.

You could use shredded newspaper. It would be free, if you or someone you know gets the paper. It’s not ideal, but if it’s just for a few days, it should be okay. Or maybe you could buy a small bag of bedding, either the brand you normally buy, or something that looks similar. I have seen small bags of paper bedding, similar to Carefresh, for a low price at the grocery store. Try some discount stores and see if any may have a small bag for just a few dollars.
