So I posted awhile ago about Zane being dirty since his mate died. But I’m growing more suspicious that it’s not just the blues. I’ve noticed off and on I can hear him chew. It makes like a squeeky grinding noise, even on soft foods like raisins. I don’t think he is eating many pellets and maybe some hay. He’s drinking and his poops and butt look good. His face is super dirty and he’s been sneezing a little. My Spidey senses are telling me it could be his molars, as his front teeth look good. I haven’t really noticed significant weight loss, but he’s never been a chubby bun to begin with.

        Any ideas?

Your spidey senses might be correct! Those darn molars are a pain to deal with, and him not eating hay will develop molar issues if he did not have them before.
It never hurts to take him to the vet!

It also wouldn’t hurt to feed him critical care since it seems like he isn’t eating too much and don’t want him to go into go stasis. Keep us updated and i hope everything goes well

Can you get fresh grass where you live? According to my vet (bunny savvy), fresh grass is as good as hay for grinding down molars. It’s a lot yummier than hay though, so picky buns that won’t eat enough hay will often devour fresh grass. My Bam is an example of that. It’s funny you shopuld say that about the noise, because when I started giving Bam lots of grass last fall, I heard a squeaky grinding sound when he chewed. (I so love listening to a munching bunny when I go to bed, it’s such a comforting sound). The squeaky grinding noised decreased and it’s not significant anymore. I recently read that buns recycle a good deal of calcium by chewing and swallowing what they grind off from their own molars, so the grinding is more powerful than we’d perhaps imagine.

As always, I recommend weekly weighing to keep track of weight fluctuations. It’s so difficult to spot gradual weight loss or -gain. There’s so much fluff and your eyes adapt to slow-ish changes in weight and simply don’t notice it.

I could hear Luke’s teeth too, when he needed his molars done and I do remember a squeky sound like he was chewing on rubber. Luke always had “wait and see” molars, looked like they could cause problems but never did- until his housemate Precious died. They weren’t even bonded but I believe the stress was enough to either make him stop eating enough to wear down the points, or without the diiatraction he just noticed that they really hurt!

Ditto to bam, I give my bun fresh grass to wear her molars down and it works, woah the same thing happened here too. I used to hear a squeaky noise but I dont anymore, just that calm cute chattering?
