Teeth showing while lying down?

  Hello, Eclipse is not showing any of the obvious signs of illness but I noticed when shes laying down spread out in her resting area I can see a bit of her teeth? Is this normal or is this a sign of mouth breathing? The jaw itself is shut, its just the lips parted a bit to where the teeth are visible. She’s sneezed a couple times today which makes me wonder if its a budding case of snuffles, but again everything else is normal and she IS starting to shed. Do buns just part their mouth a little sometimes while resting?

  In deep rest, a bun can part their lips so the front teeth show. You can look at #bunnyteefs on Insta for some examples.
  
  Its obviously important to keep a close watch on those sneezes. Theyre as a rule only sneezes (hay dust etc), unless you see thick snot (opaque white or yellow-greenish etc), but its definitely good to keep a bit of an eye. (I cant think of a time when it wouldnt be good to keep a bit of an eye on a bun’s general health though 🙂).
  
  A bun with distressed breathing will often sit up, in loaf position, with their nose pointing slightly up. Lying down compresses the lungs (rabbits have small lungs compared to rest of the abdominal organs), so they tend to not want to flop if they’ve trouble breathing. Frequence of breathing is 30-60 breaths per minute in a healthy bun (they’ll breathe faster after exercise, just like us).
  
  Eclipse is still quite young, but she’s past that very vulnerable baby-age.

  Some rabbits do indeed part their mouth while resting, so you can see their teeth. Generally, mouth-breathing is going to come up at pretty intense stages of respiratory distress, so w/ no other obvious indicators, it’s likely just how Eclipse rests.

  It’s as if they have to put some effort into keeping their lips closed. When they relax, sometimes they let everything go and that includes their lips. It isn’t usual to see their lip sort of sagging. LOL

  Okay phew I’m glad this is normal LOL! Thank you guys, she seems perfectly fine, isn’t sneezing regularly or anything either.
