Hi, Everyone,
Just a quick note to you all. I have now used the words litter “box” and litter “pan” interchangeably in two replies. I have been calling them either or both since I’ve had bunnies. I hope I don’t confuse anyone by using them in the same sentence, which is silly of me. ![]()
I also use “Habitat” “House” and “Cage” to mean the same place. ![]()
Do any of you have synonyms you use routinely that may have the rest of us scratching our heads/ears/bunnies?![]()
Example: She’s “cute” “adorable” and “evil” – meaning the same bunny. ![]()
Chacha / Koucha = same bunny. I refer to my bunny online as Chacha, but in RL, I use Koucha.
I try really hard to say cages on this forum. In real life, I call my rabbits’ cages “rooms”. But they aren’t actually rooms. Lol. I just think cage sounds so negative! Lol ![]()
Same, my buns all have xpens, but the girls have a nic condo that i call their cage.. even though theres like 6 exits to it, with no doors that close lol
Momo also lives in an x-pen. I try to call it her pen, but sometimes say cage. Cage does have a negative connotation to it. Like when I crate my dog, I call it his “kennel”, rather then a cage.
And she (is supposed to) potties in her litter box, but I sometimes call it a litter bin.
In real life, we call the xpen the “bunny pen”. The pen is set-up in what some might call the “computer room” (since we keep our computer desk, filing cabinets, etc. in there) but we all refer to the room as the “bunny room”. For example, right now hubby is playing on the computer… in the bunny room.
I also don’t like the word “cage” and I try to accurately describe the habitat. I will call it an xpen if it’s a pen, a condo if it’s NIC grids, etc…
I think that’s why I got into the habit of referring to it as her house. Now it’s an xpen, Spockie had 2 cages, but both of them have been the habitats of choice by the bunnies. Due to their natures, they don’t see them as cages either. Maybe we should all call them burrows above ground?
I also call my boys’ hutch their house, Pam.
I also call my boys’ hutch their house, Pam.
What about “mine” and “theirs” ? Or “Ah-Ah!” and “feel free to do as you wish” ? Are they synonyms? I think they are in the rabbit mind.
ETA: Oh! The grammer gremlins are going to get me since I didn’t use single words!
Chacha’s house – is the entire apartment.
Lol, I was going to say similar Brittany! Rabbit area=House
I just think cage sounds so negative!
Same here. My bunnies live in “condo’s”
I can’t call them condos, since they don’t pay maintenance fees for upkeep of exteriors, grounds and ammenities if broken. ie, I clean it and empty a clogged litter pan.
Jersey, grammar police? Stick in some hypens between words and they’re synonyms if you’re going to be picky/fussy/literal/just-plain-ornery-you-whipped-bunny-slave. ![]()
I think cage sounds a little negative, too, but I don’t like saying “kennel” or “crate” either for Hodari’s abode. I associate those words with dogs, not a little bunny. DH calls her our little Rottweiler because the crate she’s using is supposed to be sized for one. Ha, ha. Hodari’s room is also the master bedroom, and it always makes DH laugh when I refer to it as her room, but it’s more accurate to say so.
I say cage, though I do agree it has a negative sound – I just can’t stop saying it. lol
In the new house I use dining room and bunny room interchangeably. Some day it might have a dining table in it, but for now it’s just the bunnies so I might as well call it the bunny room.
Chacha used to live in a kennel and people would be shocked by that : P Who wants to live in a teeny rabbit cage? My dad says he feels bad for rabbits that live in tiny cages all their life.
My bedroom became Chacha’s room when I thought it would be nice to buy her a litter box for my bedroom.. hahaha. Now there is a hay mess right inside my door ![]()
Lol….bunny room is the same as my bedroom. Night habitat refers to their (ugh) cages whereas x-pen is their roomier run in the kitchen.
Fiver’s x-pen is mostly my bed. He gets scared out in the kitchen one and just hides. At least on my bed he will binky.
I do get tired of the word ‘buns’ as it can refer to one’s posterior…wait…maybe that is accurate at times. O_o
I prefer to use the words ‘rabs’ or the most correct ‘lords and masters’.
‘Lady Muck’ or ‘Her Stroppy-ness’ is usually Pip. Being the Queen here, she gets special designation.
I can’t call them condos, since they don’t pay maintenance fees for upkeep of exteriors, grounds and ammenities if broken. ie, I clean it and empty a clogged litter pan.
lol, yeah that’s right. They should be paying a fee. Well, Stormy pays me in kisses.
Awwwwwww. *melts* LPT, I want to see a video of Stormy paying up, please.
*gets poking stick*
I generally do mean seperate things when I use these these words.
Condo: the three story NIC cube enclosure that is Porky’s primary residence, and where he spend most of his unsupervised time.
Cage/Travel cage: The cage that Porky was left in at the pound. It is you basic 1 story, plastic bottomed petstore bunny cage. It isn’t as secure and easy to carry as a carrying case, but can be picked up and carried by a single adult without help. Porky spend little time in it, but it is handy to have.
Pen/Playpen: Porkys out door play spaces enclosed by a homemade fence from NIC cube panels.
Porky’s room/Den: Our den. Porky’s condo is located in the den. Porky gets to run around the den when humans are available to supervise him. It is separated from the livingroom by a NIC cube gate.
Carrying case: A small hard plastic case with a handle in the lid. It opens wide for easy putting bunny in and taking bunny out. Can be carried one handed by an adult while holding other stuff in the other hand.
House: a card board box with a hole that the bunny can retreat into when he wants privacy.
Don’t forget Porky’s Car Keys – the means to retreating to a local farm stand when he wants a snack. ![]()
Huckleberry has a room. There is a 3 story NIC condo in it but there is no door. I just close the bedroom door when I need to put her up. She used to have a medium dog carrier but that was when she was the size of my hand, she outgrew it pretty quick. Since I couldn’t get another cage at the time, we just let her have the extra room. Getting her into a cage now just seems mean.
