        Hey all,

I had a question about switching hays.  I want to try a blended variety of hay for my rabbits, so they have a bit of variety in their lives.  However, I was wondering if this is something that needed to be gradually introduced like most other foods or if switching can be done "cold turkey?"  I’m almost positive it’d have to be gradual, but I am nearing the end of my last timothy hay mini-bale and wanted to check if I needed to buy timothy and a blend and mix the two, or if I could buy the blend and be okay.

        Thanks for the help!

Well the only reason you would really want to do hay gradually is if you have very picky rabbits. Some rabbits are very particular about everything including hay and some are not. So mixing the new hay with the current hay is the only reason I can thing of to do this.

As far as digestion goes, introducing any new hay (except for alfalfa which can be too rich) should be okay. IF you are not sure if your bunny will be a picky or not, then just make sure the mix has Timothy in it so he can get used to it all just for taste reasons.
