I’m going to be getting an eight week old mini Lop soon. I’m wondering if I should ask the lady I’m getting him from for some of his old hay to mix with new hay. I know pellets require this and I already have that figured out, but I’m wondering if I need to do that with hay. I’m still going to be feeding him Timothy grass just I got it from a different place.

We did not stick with the old hay. We had our little bun go right to,our new hay at home and he was perfectly fine. Like you, we had the pellets from the lady we got our bunny from.

I agree with Diggity. We just started giving our boys different hay and they were totally fine. It’s pellets you really have to be careful with. But hay is fine. If you’re switching from alfalfa to timothy or something else, you’ll have to keep an eye on consumption because a lot of buns don’t like to switch off alfalfa.

Hay is fine to switch immediately. I might ask the lady for some of the current hay just in case he ends up favoring it over the new brand. Even though both are timothy hays, sometimes the cutting of the hay will differ among brands.
