Suspected Cheyletiella infestation: Question on using Revolution

I spotted a small patch of dandruff on my long-furred bunny and I am suspecting this may be a sign of fur mites. I also have a second rabbit so I am assuming that if my first rabbit has mites, then the second does as well. Even though neither seem to be scratching a lot, I would rather be safe and eliminate any risk. 

I was wondering if anyone has experience with using Revolution on rabbits and can give me some guidance on applying it to my rabbits. I am trying to avoid taking them to the vet at this time because the vet visit would be $100 per rabbit, plus the additional cost for the medicine and that is a bit too much money for me to spend at this moment.

I treated one of my rabbits earlier this year for fur mite. He initially had injections of ivermectin at vet as we were already there for check up due to another issue. But vet mentioned how stubborn fur mite can be sometimes and he was enthusiatic about Revolution also.

Anyway, it turned out the ivermectin shots didn’t quite sort it out for my boy so I did use Revolution after and it was great. Sometimes it is effective with just the one application.
He has a companion but she didn’t show any signs of fur mites. I think I gave her just the one dose in the end, as a precaution. Figured it wouldn’t hurt. : )
His immune system would not have been as strong so I suspect that’s why the signs of mites appeared.

I used the kitten/puppy pack, as usually recommended for rabbits. Both rabbits are around 2kg, the boy was a bit under that at the time. You use the full tube(0.25ml ampule) on the rabbit. I put it on the patch where the fur was already short or missing. Just check there are not any sores as the med seems to be carried in an alcohol and it would sting if it got into a raw area. On the neck is the usual place it is suggested to apply it. The fur is already naturally thinner there but you can cut some away if you wish. I put the nozzle right on the skin an squeeze the tube to empty it. The fur quickly wicks up the stuff, so I fugured getting it right on the skin as best I could would make it more effective..(???).

You might find it clears up with just the one dose. If you get the pack with 3 doses, you could apply one to each bun, then save the 3rd tube for the bun that is showing symptoms currently. Use it as the 2nd dose for him in a months time if you still see flakes or fur loss.

Thanks for this very helpful response! As for clean-up, since my rabbits are not caged and live in my bedroom, I suppose I should vacuum everything possible and wipe down the floor and their items with a gentle cleaning solution?

When I found my Bam he had mites. I did 2 rounds of treatment with two weeks between them and normal cleaning of his area (the living room). The mites have never come back, it was 6 years ago.
