So our little Tesla boy has never really had issues eating or anything like that, and when my sister in law was here with us last week, she was cuddling with him and didn’t notice anything strange. Today I realized he was sluggish but didn’t think too much of it just thinking they were resting. When I looked closer i realized Tesla was looking a little lean. When I pet him, I realized that his spine and hip bones were sticking out sharply. He seemed a little clumsier than usual and not as sassy as he usually is. When we turned him loose on some fresh hay and some spring mix and pellets and even a few baby carrots, Tesla munched them up without a problem. He’s still kind of sluggish, but he’s back to yanking carrots out of my hand. It’s extremely worrying and disconcerting and im not sure what to look for or what to do. Any advice and/or resources would be greatly appreciated. ?

Going through the exact same thing here! I just weigh them once every day and log it somewhere. If she’s eating and pooping she’s probably fine. Increase her pellets slowly and give her one or two treats a day. Just to gain the weight back

If he is suddenly losing a lot of weight, there is most likely an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. I’ve just been through a weight loss saga with my bun recently and he had to go on medication, but he is much better now. Maybe you can have a read and see if there are any similarities with what Tesla is going through?

I took him to the vet today. They did some blood work, stool samples and an X-ray. Apparently he’s fighting off some kind of infection and lost something like 40% of his body weight. The x ray showed something in his ribcage that apparently caused some difficulty breathing when they were taking the pictures, and the vet says that it could be bronchitis or pneumonia or it could be a tumor/mass, in which case there isn’t a whole lot we can do for him. He said that they could send the images to a radiologist to confirm what the mysterious blob was, but he said that no matter what, we were still going to run antibiotics to help fight whatever upper respiratory thing was causing the eye/nasal discharge, and a more broad spectrum antibiotic, so I opted to give it the weekend, see if the treatment had any effect, and hopefully confirm or debunk the tumor fear from his progress or lack thereof. He also gave him subcutaneous fluids and a B12 shot and recommended I make him a probiotic from my other (healthy) bunny’s poop. I’m hoping for the very best, but I’m very anxious.
