So I recently(and very suddenly) came to own a little bunny. I believe she’s a Netherland Dwarf, but as she’s a rescue I’m not really sure. She had been neglected for some time when I got her, the woman who had her was keeping her in a dog crate and hadn’t cleaned it in so long it was like chipping cement off the bars… I’ve gotten her into a new, big cage now, and she’s doing very well.

        1. Rabbit name: Lilly

        2. Rabbit Age: Between 2 and 3 years

        3. How long has your bunny been with you? About a week

        4; Spayed/Neutered? I was told she’s spayed, but I don’t have any vet records.

        5. Rabbit Personality Traits: When I first got Lilly, she was a very anxious, fearful, and defensive girl who would cower in the back of her cage and growl every time the door was opened. I didn’t even know rabbits could growl! Since moving her into her new home and spending time with her each day, she’s really blossomed. She’s very affectionate and loves to be pet, and she’s now eagerly eating out of my hand. She’s very particular about her cage and where her things are at, so she still grunts at me if I try to move her toys, but she doesn’t lunge and scratch like she used to.

        1. Are you new to rabbits or have you been a bunny slave for a long while now?   I’m somewhere in between. I had rabbits as a kid, first one little black rabbit I called Stormy and then a pair called Babs and Buster, but I wasn’t experienced enough with rabbits to know what to do with Lilly when I first got her; I had to do some research.

        2. What made you choose to have a rabbit companion in your life?    As I said earlier, Lilly was a sudden rescue. I know the woman who used to have her, so I knew the situation she was in. When she was offered to me, I couldn’t say no. I knew she could be more than the terrified growler she was.

        3. Anything else that you’d like to share – I’m mostly about my animals. That’s why Lilly was offered to me; I have a habit of taking in unwanted and neglected animals and rehabilitating them. I’m currently caring for two cats, a bearded dragon, a hamster, a fish, and now a lovely bunny.

Thank you for taking in Lilly and giving her a good home. She is lovely. If the woman who had her doesn’t have any papers showing that Lilly is spayed, could you contact her and get the name of the vet who did spay her. It would be very helpful to make sure she is spayed. And if it turns out she isn’t spayed, you should probably schedule the surgery soon. A vet could take x-rays and find out that way, but those are expensive and no one wants to have unnecessary vet visits.

            Welcome to Binky Bunny!

Hello and thanks, guys! Lilly’s still doing great and we’re becoming better friends by the day. However, I had a talk with her previous owner, who got her as a “newborn baby”, and she was told Lilly was spayed before she got her, which makes me think she is probably not fixed. We’ll be making a trip to the vet, soon!

Your instinct is probably right. By the former owner’s terminology, I doubt Lilly is spayed too. Odette’s vet will not spay her until she is six months old. While she is still a junior, she definitely doesn’t look “newborn baby.”

I am glad Lilly is doing well and found her human.

I don’t know how it works over there, but over here when an animal is spayed or neutered they are given an ear tattoo to show that they’ve been done. If that’s common practise there you could check her ear. Here it’s the left ear that gets tattooed.

She looks very comfortable. I’m so glad you rescued her from such a sad situation.
