Hey there!
In my introduction, I shared how I got Hazel, which is somewhat unique. A local rural “crossroads” town had an irresponsible resident let loose rabbits. Consequently, they are always on a mission to rescue and rehome babies in the spring. Someday it will be wonderful to have the issue under control, perhaps by catching and altering the grown rabbits. However, rabbit vets and reduced $$ clinics are not plentiful here in Hicksville either, so it’s a work in progress by very dedicated animal nuts.
An older gentleman is a wiz at catching these critters, and I’m proud to call him my surrogate grandfather, “Uncle Vern.” He is keeping one for his one house rabbit and gifted Hazel to me. He had one that he just could not find a home for; not by any fault of it’s own, but because so many are full up with rabbits and it’s getting harder to find homes just based on locals or tavern regulars. At any rate, I took a quick stab at it last night by sharing an FB post and sure enough, my friend Jacqueline messaged back first and she just left with him.
He’s headed home to be a house rabbit. It was funny, he knew right away she was his new mom. I was amazed by this…
Even having ridden home with me last night and having gotten his cage set up, he was still rather stand-offish with me. I told him his new mom was coming, and when I set the cage up so she could see in, she said “ohhh he’s so cute” and that little bugger hopped right up the front of the carrier and kissed her nose. Even as we stood around talking, he’d go to the back of the carrier when I came and peeked in at him, but just wanted to be near her. It was adorable and certainly just proof it was meant to be.
I hope Hazel’s little brother enjoys his new home…
