Hi, I’m new here and I have a concern about my bun.

A few days ago I noticed he was hopping strangely and would stumble about or even fall sideways occasionally. It’s really alarming to watch, but he seems otherwise fine and is eating, pooping and behaving normally. I have been watching out for any signs of distress or a head tilt but he just seems extremely off balance.

The vet gave him a shot of Metacam, prescribed Panacur for 9 days and Surolan ear drops for 1-2 weeks for the possibility of inflammation OR E. Cuniculi OR an ear infection- so essentially we don’t really know what’s wrong. I’m just concerned about the scary symptoms and the fact that Surolan is not licensed for buns, probably because it contains corticosteroids (plus it’s very stressful for him to have it put in his ears- it upsets him badly). Has anyone ever had this problem before, or know if the Surolan is safe and effective? It almost seems like the ear drops make it worse initially as he gets agitated and falls over more. Very worried bun mum!

I’ve never heard of Surolan, but Panacur is normally given for more than 9 days if it’s EC for the medication to be effective. Typically it’s about 28 days.

          Is your vet rabbit savvy?
