Strange wound in paw

Hello!

A couple of weeks ago I noticed this “wound” on Tambor’s paw.
I thought it’d go away but it’s still there. It’s between his “thumb”
and “index”. He doesn’t lick it or show signs of discomfort when I hold his paw, but I have no clue about what it is. It used to be am open wound but now it’s dry. Any ideas? Should I take him to the vet? Thanks!! :*

Ouch, poor Tambor’s paw. I’m glad it’s not bothering him. I’m not sure how long it takes for cuts to heal, but since it hasn’t closed up yet and there is always the possibility of infection, I would call the vet and explain the situation and see if they think a visit is necessary.

 Do you know if it’s this how wounds look like in bunnies? (Brown and messy inside)? Is it not a worm, tumor, etc? It’s the first time Tambor has something odd looking in his skin and I have no idea how a bunny wound is supposed to look like :S.

Vet. Its a hole so maggots are a very real possibility

Thank you, Mikey! I’ll call the vet today and see if I can send her the picture.

Actually, it’s not a hole, the brown thing is a protuberance and it is hard to the touch (like a scab).

Two weeks is too long for such a small wound in such a sheltered spot to not heal significantly. I say vet asap.

I was thinking some more about Tambor. I’m wondering if he got something jabbed in there – like a large hay splinter or similar… it would explain why it feels like a bump and hasn’t healed at all in so long (can’t imagine it’s maggots – that would’ve induced shock within days, if not hours). But something like a woody splinter??…

Tambor is fully fine . It turns out it was just a normal-healing wound and the brown thing was the scab. Actually, this afternoon the scab fell off and the skin underneath is healthy looking! Yahoo!

So glad to hear Tambor is ok! Even shallow rabbit wounds can take quite a while to heal. I don’t know why that is.

+Q8bunny, when you mentioned the splinter I was convinced it was that. We will never know, I guess ;D.

I was wondering, do you guys know of any link where I can get information on how to treat superficial, small wounds (like the one Tambor had)? If this ever happens again, should I disinfect the wound and dress it? If so, with what/how?

Irrigate wound with diluted disinfectant (iodine or hydrogen peroxide do nicely). Then apply a triple antibiotic ointment like Neosporin (but not the kind with painkiller in it). If the wound is deep, Manuka honey is a great treatment too. Do this at least twice daily and observe closely until healed.
