do rabbits have nipples? LOL. no seirously, i was rubbing lulla’s belly today and i felt a small bump and i was hoping that it was a nipple and not something sierous. I only felt one when i was looking for more bumps.

does anyone have any ideas on what this might be?

Yes they do! In fact all female mammals that suckle their young have mammary glands (nipples) to feed their young.

thats a good question re: male buns… don’t know myself.   just got back from the vets & asked them how MANY nipples girl buns have & they didn’t find an answer for me.  a little known subject?  maybe some one with an obliging male bun can do a feel-check.  i can feel Baby’s nipples even tho they’re wee, when rubbing her belly.

I’ll try to check Stormy when he runs tonight. If you don’t hear back from me, I might be seriously injured, lol.

                        http://www.exoticpetvet.net/

The skin of the female rabbit has four or five pairs of mammary glands and nipples, and unlike other mammal species, bucks do not have any nipples. Females may develop an infectious mastitis or a non-infectious cystic mastitis of the mammary tissue. Cystic mammary glands may eventually progress to malignancy and the cancer may spread through the lymph nodes, lungs or other organs.

                        Finally-an answer!

that makes sense.  Baby has 3 nipples since her ‘mastectomy’.  i counted.  she was NOT amused when i put her down.  got foot flicks and a resounding ::THUMP::

You know what I was thinking….Maybe since males don’t have nipples then you can sort of use that to help sex rabbits!

Like if you can’t see a penis, maybe you could rule out male on the basis that there are no nipples…Or rule in female because there are nipples..

You can’t get a ‘false male’ if you see a penis…and you can’t get a ‘false female’ if you see nipples!
