        Hello all,

I could sure use some assistance! So Teddy (5ish year old Lop, neutered) has been going through a particularly rough molt this time around, and he appears to be in stasis 🙁  And I’ve been trying so hard to keep up with changing out his water daily, vacuuming, brushing, etc…

I noticed yesterday that he hadn’t eaten all of his pellets as he normally does as well as his greens. He seemed okay, a little lethargic but nothing out else out of the ordinary, up until this morning. He had no interest in his pellets. Only a few (big) poops since last night. He’s been in the loaf/sprawled out position and just looks uncomfortable. He’s not moving a whole lot. I even offered banana and more greens, and still no interest. So I proceeded to do what I know to do, keep him warm. I’ve been using a towel and a warm water bottle to try and keep him warm. Tummy rubs. I’ve also been syringing him water as well as 1cc of Simethicone every 3 hours (he’s had 3 doses today so far). I managed to get about 5cc of water syringed.

Unfortunately, there are no vets available this weekend in my area. I’ve called everywhere. His regular exotic vet opens on Monday.. My question is, what do I do? I have some Reglan left over from last time he got stasis– is that ok to start? Do I keep syringing water? Do I need to try and force feed critical care? I would appreciate any input, I’m pretty freaked out but hopeful I caught it early enough.

        Thanks

Definitely keep syringe feeding water, and I would also pick up some critical care for your bun, it has a lot of nutrients he isn’t getting while not eating. Great job catching it early! A nice belly rub can sometimes help move things along, as well as feeding some of his favorite veggies soaked, wet veggies help move the gut.

Ughh I’ve been in your situation, I’m sorry. 🙁 how is he doing now?

Are you able to take his temp? Knowing if his temp is low will be helpful.

I would not give the reglan. If he is in pain the stomach contractions without appropriate pain management could be very painful for him.

Def keep up the supportive care you’ve been giving. Syringe feeding a stasis bun is a tough call in case of full blockage, but I think trying a tiny amount a little at a time might be good (like 1cc).

Thanks, y’all. Well he’s doing a bit better. He’s finally moving around a bit and all of the sudden he’s eating hay, so I guess that’s a good sign! A few poops, even. Still not interested in his usual veg/herbs, though. And definitely still not acting like his usual self..

@DanaNM, Unfortunately not able to take his temp, but his ears did feel cold earlier this morning (if that means anything). Yes that was definitely a concern, didn’t want to pump him full of critical care in case he’s fully stopped up! Will hold off on the Reglan.

So should I keep up with the syringe fluids/simethicone? I did manage to give a bit of critical care as well.

              Thanks again

If he’s eating hay now, my guess is he just has a bit of gas. I would keep up the simethicone, it won’t hurt anything. Fluids too. Will he eat the critical care willingly if you put it in a dish? Sometimes you have to let it sit for awhile before they will show interest in it. If not, then I agree with giving him small amounts at a time. Poop is a good sign, that means things are at least moving (even if it is slowly).

Glad he’s doing better! I would keep giving the Simethicone, the only time my guy has tummy trouble is when he’s shedding, Simethicone always does the trick.

That’s awesome he’s eating hay now!! If he pooped a bit he’s not blocked, so there shouldn’t be any harm in giving some CC, since his diet is still not back to normal.

More and more I’m learning the importance of hydration with keeping the bunny gut moving, so it’s really good you syringed water.
