My rabbit is recovering from a bout of stasis- Friday night she was not eating and hunched over, trying to get comfortable. I gave her simethicone throughout the night and called the vet first thing Sat morning. Got her checked out and got meds/critical care, and she turned around very quickly. By Sat evening she was acting pretty much normal.
She’s still not eating a ton of hay (I’ve seen her nibbling at it) but she came and ate most of her pellets last night and she is hopping, flopping, periscoping, and generally acting more bunny-like and drinking/peeing/pooping normally (although the cecal pellets are still a little dry looking and smaller than normal at times)
I’m just wondering how long I should continue on the meds/critical care. My vet is away at a conference this week or I would call them.
She is on metaclopramide, and an antibiotic (the antibiotic was precautionary as her bonded mate passed away 2 weeks ago and we wanted to be sure it wasn’t some contagious underlying issue causing the stasis)
She has always been kind of flighty but recently we had made huge progress with our bond (after her mate passed) and I feel like these meds multiple times a day are completely breaking any bond that we had. The bunny burrito and all that really stress her out. She used to hop right up to me when she saw me, and now she growls and thumps and runs away when I walk into the room.
I just want to stop stressing her out and start repairing our bond ASAP. Any thoughts?
