I cannot hide my excitement of the event that just occured…

I had a super milestone in my relationship with Bun Franklin. I sat down on the floor next to his pen to play on the internets and give him company. He would come over and ask for treats but after a couple treats I decided it’d be best to replace treats with pets. Well couple times in of petting and then all of a sudden he is doing the head bow asking for grooming. This is something I have read about and thought was only a dream for me. But then it just happened and it was magic! I gently pet his nose for a good 15 minutes or so while he loafed more and more and started falling asleep. It was AMAZING! Maybe he does love his human slave after all

Just to clarify, this means he’s dominate right? haha

i just could not imagine pumbaa not being the social butterfly he is.   his living quarters are are in the finished basement, when he hears ya coming down the steps he runs to the end closest to he steps & starts biting the nic cubes.  we sit in his space & clean,  all the whilst he’s climbing in our laps & licking our faces.   he follows us–especially my partner, who is favorite–around when he’s free roaming.  he actually hops between her legs as she’s walking & pawing at her legs like a puppy.  when we sit down on the floor, he’s right in our laps. when we’re on the couch, he’ll jump right up on us.   he loves being held/fussed over…grooming, kisses on his nose ect. 

it just amazes me some are the complete opposite…

How exciting!!!!! Guess what…. that doesnt go away! That excitement you feel right now, you are still going to feel that for years to come, every time he does anything at all… even if youve seen it a million times. Its still THAT exciting.

I dont know what it is, but something about a bunny trusting you is truly rewarding. When Huckles snuggles up next to my face and slowly moves her head back and forth under my nose, I nearly break into tears of joy. This tiny little creature, this creature that should be afraid of me, trusts and loves me! She is so little and adorable and has so much to express, its so exciting to research their language and then know what they are saying to you!! Like in your moment, when you knew he wanted you to groom him! Something I always do when Huckles asks for grooms is to gently slide my finger over her closed eye. Eye grooming is very intimate for a bunny and Huckles always has eye bogeys. You might try it out, it always gets a few licks in return around here!!!

Yes, it does mean he is requesting you to groom him, so it is a dominant behavior but it is not the same kind of dominance that you have with a dog. You didnt lose control of him (mostly bc believe me, you never had it hahaha), he just expects that you should be grooming him.

Awhhhhh Yup lol that means he’s dominate, but usually bunnies will both asking for grooming and groom other bunnies/people.
