Anyone ever done this?  I spilled coffee on my Macbook Pro this morning and rushed it to the Mac shop – I’m hoping it didn’t fry my computer.  I love that computer!

I’m already anticapting having to get a new one which won’t be cheap.  I bought another one last year for my personal computer at home but my personal computer at work has my Quickbooks in it which I’m pretty sure can be recovered if I have to get a new Macbook.

I feel mad at myself because that compuer is not even 5 years old, maybe not 3, not positive when I bought it.  My carelessness could be the waste of a perfectly good computer.

        Just ruined my whole day

          Aww, that sucks!

At work we get a new computer every 4 years and most people have it die on them before that time (and we use pretty high quality computers), so don’t beat yourself up because it’s not too old. My last one died when it was 4 or 5 years old.

I hope you can get it fixed though! That would be much better than buying a new one,.

What did you do when you spilled it? To help avoid frying it’s best to power down immediately, remove the battery, remove the keyboard if you know how and dry it off as best you can then leave it upside down to dry. If you did that, you have a pretty good chance of not having it fried. If not, hopefully it didn’t fry.

I read that Stickerbunny, but I’ll be darned if I have the tools to do that or even know where the battery is…it seemed to turn off by itself so I think I drowned it. I just rushed it’s to the Mac store and they are going to dry it out and call me tomorrow about the damage.

I’m anticipating the worst and hoping for the best.

I think that’s probably the most common accident that happens to computers, so I would be really, really surprised if they can’t fix it. I mean, think about it. No exposed wires to short, all metal is waterproof especially if it’s not boiling, plastic has a high boiling point, so probably the battery MIGHT be the most vulnerable. And rinsing off the keyboard so the coffee that dries in between the keys doesn’t get sticky. (Which can probably be steam cleaned.)

I’d bet few people end up with a brand new computer after a cup of coffee spills. Unless they get a very effective salesman.
                Good luck.

It isn’t so much the liquid that is the issue as it acts as a conductor for the electrical current going through the computer, which can cause a short. . Some laptops come with spill guards, some keyboards have plastic covers between the connectors, which prevents the liquid getting there before you can get the power off. The danger isn’t it getting wet, it is the parts getting wet BEFORE the power is disconnected.

Hopefully it only shorted something easy to replace since your PC shut itself down. Or hopefully MACs have a safeguard to shut down when they sense something that could damage them.

                      (((((((((Get Well Computer))))))

I’m VERY surprised to say that I’ve yet to spill coffee on my laptop. I spend most of my morning with my laptop on the arm of the couch and a coffee in one hand. And I’m very clumsy…I’m always spilling stuff.

I’ve heard with mobile (cell) phones, that you stick them in a bowl of uncooked rice if they get wet. I wonder if that would help with a lap top? Probably get rice stuck between all the keys no doubt!   I hope it survives Sarita. For what it’s worth, I have a feeling it will. Fingers crossed.
