So about 3 weeks ago I bought Freya & I recently found out she’s a female. (my first) I found out it’s going to be atleast 275$ to get her spayed  I’m just wondering for bunny owners who have her their females spayed, how the recovering process went? I’m so nervous! mainly because of the surgery. Also, will it really change her attitude? to sum it up, she was so amazingly nice in the pet store with the other rabbits, but she isn’t fond of Loki very much  I know it’ll be awhile until they’re bonded, and that’s fine. but i’m worried she’ll continue to be a bit of a brute with him. They’re caged separately, but next to each other. I won’t let them really meet until she’s spayed. (to avoid hormonal fights) but poor Lokes wants to see her so bad! I’m getting anxious for him! She’s so tough though! She chews and bites harder than Loki ever has, and when she’s out, her little “nibbles” when you’re in her way, are so hard! I’m hoping that’ll tone down a bit too  I’ve heard females can be tough!

Girls are usually pretty sore and tired after their spay. Sometimes they are unwilling to eat. My girl had a pretty rough time, she was really sore for a few days. But my little Bridge Bunny made out much better when I had her spayed. It really depends on the bunny. Some are willing to eat but some need to be force fed for a couple of days. It is a pretty major surgery so you have to expect them to be sore, sleepy and grumpy.

I did not notice any behavioral changes with my spayed girls. Velvet I had done as a baby and the only change was she stopped humping everything, Olivia was already an adult, over age 1, and I noticed zero change with her. She’s still mega territorial and aggressive so I’ve never been able to bond my two. But I think she’s a bit of a drama queen, honestly….And the fact that she was already an adult may be the reason for the lack of positive spay changes.

Most people worry that their bun’s personalities will change. But, from my knowledge, most of the time, it only changes some hormonal bad habits.

The most important thing to remember is that spaying is the best choice for your buns chance at a long, healthy life.

Aw. I’m so nervous of how much pain she’ll be in. I’ll feel terrible! Especially if I have to force feed her. The surgery definitely is happening, i’m just afraid of how she’s going to be while recovering. Do you think it’s necessary to take some time off from work for a few days after to watch her? Freya is very nice with me, she doesn’t show any aggression at all. And she really didn’t with Loki… but my guess is her guard may be up because at first Loki wanted to kill her hahahaha. How much was it for you to get your bun spayed? I called 4 different places to see who does spays the most.. who was more successful, etc. Because my vet is only comfortable doing neuters. One was 275$ and she was the most experienced and successful.. others were $407, $450 and $507. I was very surprised with how high it was! Loki was about $90!  Loki didn’t change much at all from being neutered.. he’s still territorial as ever!

I feel the same way! I have Chloe’s spay scheduled for next month and I decided to take a few days off work just to make sure everything is okay and she is eating/pooping. My vet charges 295 for a spay and 240 for a neuter (which includes preop labs and meds). I went ahead and bought critical care and syringes in case I do have to force feed her . Hopefully all will be okay for the both of us!
