I have 2 female bunny’s and 1 male. They all went in to get spayed and neutered and the vet that did it said I could put Via and Louie together 2 weeks after and it would be safe. I knew they were friends because their pens were about an inch apart so they used to see each other through the cage bars. Exactly 2 weeks after, they both had recovered perfectly, I put them together. There was not excessive mounting but there was some which I just assumed was dominance. Now its been about another 2-3 weeks after I put them together and I started noticing Via getting more and more excited for food and always wanting to eat. She also used to let me hold and pet her and she would lick me but now she doesn’t like me to pick her up as much. Naturally I googled it and it said I should have waited 2 weeks for females but 6 weeks for males. Is it possible she’s pregnant? If so is she in danger of death or something because she’s spayed? Any help or advice would be great, I’m really worried.

If she’s been spayed it’s impossible for her to get pregnant and she will be fine. However, it’s suggested that you wait at least 1 month before putting bunnies together after spay/neuter as they can have hormone surges for several weeks to a month afterwards.

Were your bunnies previously bonded? If yes, you will still probably need to do some gradual bonding. That is normal after spaying/neutering.

Like LPT said, it’s impossible for her to get pregnant because she wouldn’t have a uterus anymore for babies to form – spaying means removing the whole uterus of a doe.

There’s more info about bonding bunnies under the BONDING section of the forum, so you might wanna check that out

I’m sorry, but just because they were an inch apart does not make them friends. You really need to go through the proper bonding process so they don’t end up killing each other later because they weren’t bonded properly. You can’t just put bunnies together. And you need to wait until their hormones have died down and you’ve prebonded for 1-2 months. Then you can begin short sessions in neutral territory.

As the others have said, a spayed doe cant get pregnant. The reason you wait 6 weeks with a neutered buck is that a buck can have viable sperm in his vas deferens for about 4-5 weeks after his testicles have been removed. 6 weeks is for good measure. But there wont be babies if the doe is spayed. The reason you wait two weeks with a doe is because you want her to be fully healed after the spay when you start bonding sessions.

However, a doe can, and often will, go through hormonal swings post spay, and these can go on for rather a long while (several months). Bucks can also have a “post-neuter craze” as this phenomenon is called, but in a buck it usually lasts only about 2 weeks. It could be a post-spay hormonal surge that makes your girl bun behave like she is expecting babies.
