Spay tips?

So we will be having daisy spayed in the next month or so and I’ve been trying to prepare. I’ve read through the forums and just thought I’d try to get a list together of tips that would make recovery go smoothly. So all you bunny hoomans who’ve been through a spay- whats the one thing you wish you had known?

so far I know I’m going to need to have a way to keep her warm (still figuring how I’ll do that) . I’m going to move her food and water so that its on the floor so she doesn’t have to work for it. I’m also going ot buy some CC before hand just in case she doesn’t start to eat easily. She doesn’t have much as far as hiding. The only thing they like is their cardboard box. but that concerns me with her squeezing in the opening. its no problem for her now but I don’t want to take a chance of scraping her incision. Should I not let her have it? or if I cut another hole that’s bigger and let her decide if she’s comfortable with it?

And her bonded bunny husband Mr. Bun, what do I do with him? they have a ramp up to the second level and I can easily close off that opening to keep them separate. I would keep her on the top floor so there’s not temptation to go up the ramp. But wouldn’t it upset them to be totally closed off from each other?  Should I allow him to visit her for a few minutes each day?

Mr Buns neuter was super easy and now that we are getting closer to daisy’s spay I’m getting more and more nervous!

Keeping warm – hot water bottle covered in tshirt or fleece (no direct contact), underneath another blanket, giving her space to move away if she becomes too hot

Eating asap afterwards – Zou didn’t eat any of the things I thought she would love..(!! I’d made a list (Raisins, no! Banana, no! Herbs, no! Carrots, no! Apple, no!…and bought them !!).. I ended up feeding her rose petals for the first 24 hrs and then she nibbled other stuff…. phewie.

I wouldn’t let Mr Bun near her to begin with but certainly next to her & comforting her & so they can see each other…
She’ll smell differently from coming back from the vets and will be KO for a while anyway.

Could you keep her on the ground floor and let him bounce around outside on the floor ?

The danger for her stitches would be uncontrollable binkying (are they ever controlled? LOL ) or jumping up on to shelves etc or playing with Mr Bun.
Could you block the ramp off for the first couple of days…?

CC on hand is always a good thing to have just in case… she may eat by herself earlier than expected anyway.

I’ll have to find a hot water bottle! I also have a small heating pad that I could hang outside the cage. She wouldn’t be able to get to it to chew on it but it would radiate heat in one corner. I know usually heating pads are frowned upon but if she can’t get to it would that be okay?

yes, I can block off the ramp. if I put her on the bottom floor MrBun would be able to see her while he’s out in the room as the whole front of it is cage but if she is on the bottom floor she would still have access to the ramp even though the opening at the top will be closed off. I think I might be able to unscrew the ramp and take it completely out while she heals- I’ll have to check. if she starts feeling better quickly how long should I keep her to minimal activity?
