Uhhh it’s that time of year-it’s cooling off and we could see snow as early as now, or fingers crossed, not until after halloween. We won’t see the ground until April if we’re lucky, likely May or even if it’s an awful winter-June.

What’s winter like in your neck of the woods?

Is it a welcome relief from the heat?

Is it  an awful thing that comes every year despite that you don’t want it to?

Are you lucky and live in the southern hemisphere and your gearing up for summer and beaches?

I am in TX. It depends on the year, but we do see snow most years. I would say fall is a welcome relief from heat (well it is still in the 80’s during the day) but I am not a fan of winter. I hate being cold. But after our dreadfully hot summer, I am going to try to keep from complaining when it cools (gets cold) off. I am from MA, so I know all about long winters. I do not miss it. Not. one. bit.

I hate winter. Just hate it. I can’t stand being cold and the streets are terrible here (budget cuts, they don’t plow like they should). I am often terrified to drive. I always get depressed this time of year because I know winter is coming and there is nothing I can do about it.

Anyway, the winters here are pretty cold. It’s not unusual to have sub-zero temperatures and snow on the ground that won’t melt. Last year wasn’t real bad though. We got less snow and there were only a few weeks with high temps in the single digits.

I love winter I have always been a cold weather kind of person. Winters around here are all over the place 2 years ago it didn’t get below 70F then last year it rarely got above 0F and there was a ton of snow all winter. I do enjoy warm weather but I much prefer cold weather.

I very much enjoy having 4 seasons…I can’t imagine life in a constant season but if we have another winter like last year I’m gonna snap!!!! We had record snow last year. Wasn’t too cold, just loads and loads of snow. A lot of older buildings collapsed. Both our storage shed and our deck collapsed because of the weight. We usually get snow around December, sometimes as early as October and it lasts into April. I enjoy snow and the festiveness to it and all but I can do without 40 cm snowfalls every week. My absolute favorite thing in the world is riding my horse in a light snow fall….can’t wait.

It’s been just beautiful here these last few weeks, feels like it’s still summer. But Fall is by far my very favorite season…except for raking the leaves.

Ditto LonghairMike! I’m in FL and soooooo glad to see the end of the 90s. Once we move back into the 80s and 70s (Heaven!) i start my outdoor walkies again. To get rid of the Summer Fat. And clear my head and sinuses. And remember why I moved here where it will be beeeyooootiful for the next 6 months and I never ever ever have to shovel snow or slip on ice again. Even the “cold snaps” (read maybe one day in the 50s) are refreshing and I can wear an oldie but favorite jacket. Yea Fall!

I can’t say I’m happy with our weather so far this fall … I swear it’s been raining here for a month (I think we had one week of sun in September, but it’s literally rained at least every other day besides that). We just have whole weeks of rain and then when we have one nice day it’s too wet out to do anything (and the mosquitoes are awful).

Winter here varies. It’s usually not that bad through December, but then January brings 10 degree weather and snow. This is our first winter in our new house, where we have to do all of the snow removal, so we’ll see how it goes! We’re going out to buy a snow blower today, actually.

I’m in Western WA and the known rain has made a comeback.

Basically, rain all week – in the 60s. At night, low 50’s, high 40’s.

I look foward to sipping tea and wearing rainboots

yeah we’ve had nothing but rain/overcast skies the last 3 days here in tacoma, wa. We only had summer for about a month! No joke, it hit the mid 80’s for about 3 weeks and that’s it. *sigh* i like the fall weather when it’s NOT raining, but i miss the sun too.

ChaCha, I feel like I’m living in the PNW this winter – our weather has been the same as yours! Luckily we’re in for about 4 days of beautiful sun starting tomorrow. That’s the most consecutive days of sun we’ve had in about a month.

Michigan has four very distinct seasons. How bad the winter gets around here depends on where in the state you live. Northern MI, the U.P., and near the lakes gets a lot more snow. We are near the Detroit smog bubble, so we don’t see too much. Couple good snows a year. Temperature can be different too. I remember Januaries where it barely got out of the negatives and single digits. I also remember winters where it was in the 40’s and 50’s, which is a heatwave to us.

Oddly, it has been pretty warm. It got to 91 today, which was 2 degrees short of the record.

Well K&K we have pretty much the same weather Lucky us… I walk to work most days, with my dogs and yesterday I wore gloves there at 2 pm 😐 and 3 hours north of me has been getting snow pretty regularly the last couple of weeks, but it hasn’t stuck yet – FINGERS CROSSED! I’ll be surprised if we make it to Halloween without snow this year.

Which reminds me, I should probably hurry up and buy new winter tires

I suppose it could be worse. (looks again) Nah.

Our fall lasted about four weeks total. Trees turned golden and dropped their leaves in half that.

When I start seeing the little snow icons though, that’s when I go postal. I HATE snow. I don’t know HOW my husband managed to convince me to come to this bunghole of the universe. Of course, now, can’t afford to move anywhere else, so it’s time to break out the ski pants and the mukluks.

                                          Let’s see…how many days till spring…?

We had our first frost warning last night! I’m not sure if it actually frosted – by 8:00 when I went to my car there wasn’t any frost. I cut the last three tomatoes off of my plants because I didn’t want them to be ruined by the frost – now I’ll have to wait for them to ripen indoors.

DH and I set up the fire pit last night for a fire! We thought about lighting it last night, but kind of ran out of time. Since it should be nice through the weekend I think we’ll light it up on Saturday. I love sitting by the fire!

Our fire pit doesn’t drain well, so every time we use it I have to hover over it with a solo cup and bail out all of the water that has collected. It’s like a little swimming pool.

I live in the Poconos. We have a GORGEOUS fall here, but the winter is neverending. I miss Florida (where I grew up) for at least half the year…

We had a very light snowfall yesterday. But this weekend it’s supposed to be gorgeous and in the 20’s. Weird because I’m sitting in my living room, all bundled up in sweaters, half frozen. It’s really cold out this morning. Almost time to clean all the hay and dust out of the rabbit room heater…don’t want them little ears getting cold.

I woke up this morning and our bedroom was 58 degrees (we have a thermostat in there). We left the windows open all night to keep the temp low, but I didn’t think it would get that cold. I was all warm and comfy under my down comforter, but getting up and going into the cold bathroom was a challenge!

Heh winters in Wisconsin…don’t even get me started ;P Basically I can expect it to start snowing around Thanksgiving. At first everyone gets all excited but after a week it gets old really fast. From then on there often there will be days where there is so much snow you think it’s definitely going to be a “snow day” and in almost any other state there it would, but it never is (we get a “cold” day about 1-2 times per season) haha I think I’m still bitter from when I was a kid. Snow plows are loud at 4 a.m. The worst is how cold it gets, it literally hurts. 60 degrees F is shorts weather here. Oh and my favorite part is when the end of March comes around and there will be a couple days of warmer weather and the snow will start to melt, and you think it has to be over….but then it snows the next day. And this happens several times till sometime in April. As you probably can tell, I wish I lived in a warmer state.

Oh, did I mention we got a snow blower this week? Exciting stuff! We got the biggest one you can get that’s not a professional model (the professional models go up in price at least $1k). This thing is a monster – 30″ across. Our drive way is about 12 feet wide and around 150 feet long. To get it professionally plowed would be a lot, so we decided that DH would do all of the plowing himself. I’m sort of excited to see it in action, but I don’t want it to snow too early either.

Snow, cold weather…what is that LOL. We are experiencing the worst drought in decades in Texas and really need rain. It is due to La Nina…which I don’t totally understand. Our weather seems to be affected by La Nina or El Nino.

Our highs are finally in the upper and mid 80’s so we are experiencing some cooling. I’ve heard we are going to have a warm winter in Texas.

Oh and we should have our first snow by the beginning of November. Heck I remember wearing my snowsuit under my Halloween costume while trick or treating a few times.

I hear my father-in-law (NV) talk about how cold 60 degrees is when we’d gladly call that tank top weather, like bunnyfriend. For us, 80 F is reminiscent of my childhood summers when it was 105 F in the shade. I’ve acclimated over the years to take brief trips outside in bare feet even when it’s -20 F out there.
