          http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/sorehocks.shtml

this article does a good job of explaining it.

rabbits that are kept on wire, are overweight or are rex/mini rexes have a greater incidence of sore hocks.

Beka – This is the best article I’ve seen. Thanks for posting it.

yes, unfortunately due to her breed, Mead has a slight case of sore hocks. so she’s always on a controlled diet to “watch her figure” as well as regular nail trims monthly to keep them short.

Yes, Holly also has had trouble with them in the past. I’m pleased to say you can harldy tell she had trouble with them. She has one callused spot, but it looks good. I will never stop checking them though.

Oh sore hocks, my Daffodil has the same problem as well. I’ve had to watch diet, provide doft fake sheep fleece surfaces for her and keep an eye on them to make certain that they do not break open. Chance of infection is high and it can reach the bone if it gets bad so check them every day. Hard surfaces like wood flooring and even linoleum can make it worse and also if you have an abrasive carpeting, it acts as sand paper against it and can make the problem worse.
