Do you have a local humane society or rescue that has bunnies? I’m sure there’s a homeless bunny somewhere around you who would love to come home and be your friend. ![]()
the only prob with them is they do strenuous background checks and home checkups and my husband wont have that

bunnylove, not all humane societies do a lot of background checks, have you talked to them ? Mine just called our landlord to make sure pets were OK and that was it.

The humane society I got West from did ZERO checks at all, so definitely agreed on that, talk to them.
And if your husband doesn’t want any background checks or good home checks, I honestly would hold off on a pet. What is he scared of?

I agree. Rescues who do background checks/home visits (and not all do!) do so because they want to find the best possible “forever” homes for their rabbits.
You’ve said in a different thread that you already have the NIC condo finished, and you’ve been gathering appropriate supplies. It sounds like you’re doing what you need to and any rescue would recognize your efforts. A few minutes in your home just to “make sure” should not be a threat.

is it charlie sheen?
LOL @ longhairmike!
its not that hes afraid of something but just as bunny’s are territorial he is and i respect that. this is our home and he dose not want anyone in it unless its friends or family. the bunny at the pet shop has gotten worse more hair is missing witch is most likely mights and i really don’t want to bring them into my home and spreed to my cat and dog. iv asked the pet store to have it checked and they still have not given me a date they have scheduled it for. if they have the bunny looked at and treated i will take the bun home other wise i can not pay 60$ for him/her and then spend another 57 at vet for a visit and then what ever the prescription coasts. i shouldn’t have to buy a sick bunny its the stores obligation to make shore the bunny is healthy before selling him/her. im going to continue getting on the store to make shore the bunny gets the proper care.
Although it happens from time to time, one thing that rescues really don’t want are returns. Usually once a rabbit is adopted out, another one comes in to take its place. If the adopted one then returns, there becomes a space issue. At breeders or stores, it is usually you bought it, you keep it – and then guess where it goes if the family doesn’t want it? To the rescue.
That’s why rescues will do the ‘background checks’ as it were. They want to make sure that the rabbit will stay there and be in a loving home. The visits are just as much about making sure your life isn’t impacted by the rabbit as it is to make sure the rabbit itself is safe. We check to make sure cords are safe, hazards are out of the way and so on so you don’t have an injured rabbit or a destroyed house. If someone isn’t prepared for the $200+ spay/neuter fee after they buy a bunny from a store or breeder, then they’ll have a destructive, peeing bunny around 3 months of age.
That’s also why rescues are better choices. Their adoption fees are usually under $100, the rabbit is already altered and they can tell you about the personality ahead of time. IMO, it’s worth a 10 minute walk through the house with a volunteer – both financially and possible headaches down the road.
Dang, where did that soapbox under my feet come from?
I can understand where you and your husband are coming from – just be prepared.
I understand where you are coming from too and Markbun said it better than I could.
There are baby bunnies as well at shelters. When I did rescue work, I rescued quite a few babies and many of the rescues do get baby bunnies in as well so keep that in mind – many times they get in rabbits that are already pregnant and they need to find not only the mama a new home, but the babies too and the adoption cost includes the cost of the spay/neuter – such a good deal.
