I am “liked” on Animal Rescue sites facebook page and get their status updates on my wall. Today one pops up about rabbits being used for Armani fashion – how bad they are to the fur raised animals. And all these people who cry bloody murder everytime anyone mistreats a dog or cat, have the nerve to say that The Animal Rescue site shouldn’t care about “farm animals like rabbits” being mistreated and killed for fashion

What makes a dog or cat so much more special than a bunny, that overseas farming of dogs/cats for fur has them screaming about the inhumane practice but rabbits are “just farm animals” … argh.

Oh and there is a petition on their facebook page if anyone wants to sign it. Not sure if I am allowed to give a link.

            Stickerbunny,
You read my mind today! Except I have the feeling about some friends of mine. Don’t get me wrong, they are wonderful people, but they are clueless when it comes to animals–especially teaching thier kids about proper care and handling (they are two girls ages 13 & 8). First they have a cat (who is probably treated the best) who is scared of everything and everyone. Now I know it could be the cat’s personality but those kids chased that cat around trying to pick it up when it was younger. She is spayed. Second, they got a dog, at the mall of course (Debby’s Petland none the less). It’s an American Eskimo and I don’t think it’s ever been brushed never mind to the groomers. She has no manners at all and is very mouthy. They basically got her after they bought the house so they could have a dog to go with it. I believe she is spayed. And this is what my friend had to say, “I didn’t like dogs before. I thought if I actually owned one I would like them. I don’t, you want mine?” Really??? Lastly, the aquired a rabbit from someone else (who bought it at a pet store) and when I saw it today I became slightly depressed. Of course it was on pine shavings, the junky food with extra bits, no hay and was in it’s small cage with the halter on (“It’s easier to leave it on rather than try to put it back on.”) He is the cutest bunny. So sweet. Very nervous and shy. Luckily, she is a good enough friend where I was able to give her a quick “bunnycation” and she was amazed by all the info I gave in a short period of time (I was dropping my daughter off and rushing to work). I’m gonna stop by my feed store and get a 2.50 bag of timothy hay to bring to her for little Romeo. I wanna steal him Who knows, I may get a call someday to take him (crosses fingers).

Here’s the little guy. Excuse the blurriness, my daughter isn’t the greatest photog

He’s so cute, I hope your friend listens to your advice about his care! My mini-rex came in a super tiny cage with pine shavings too, but she quickly turned into a super-diva that bosses her bunny slave around like she’s always had one. lol

I get annoyed by other pet owners that “love their pets so much and they are like their kids”- but do not neuter/spay them, can’t afford to take them to the vet when they have ear infections, etc. That is NOT true love to me- truly loving an animal means putting them first- so they are fixed, proper food, vet care and love and affection- and thinking of them first starts BEFORE you even get the pet.
Can you tell that I have a friend that is annoying me? She refers to her dogs as her sons but can’t afford to get them proper care. GRRRRR

Katnip, I laughed and I totally nodded my head at your post. I feel the same way as you. For a child, (animal or person) you go above and beyond to find things for THEIR needs.

I have a friend who wants to spay her lab, and her fiance is being resistant to it, saying that it is a ‘waste of money.’ Yeah, I’m really sure you want your poor dog to have its period monthly and to wear a freaking diaper during those days. Those people, I do not understand. My friend and her fiance are responsible for the dog. Why not do the good thing?

People really just don’t understand the cost of a pet.   I tell people having a pet is like, behavior-wise, having a 2yr old but cost-wise, can be like owning a 10yr old car.

                      Heh, cars are cheaper! lol

My mother said it best this week… “I spent $63 on dog food and $43 on human food”

My pair definitely eat better than I do! and I completely agree with this thread, my cousin has a chihuahua which I cannot stand, but I feel bad for…this dog has not been to the vet in who knows how long, has no social skills, he is supposed to use a pee pad which in its self I find disgusting but he barely uses it and did I mention she lives with me?  the dog never gets groomed, its hair is everywhere and she never cleans up after him.  Its very frustrating!!! especially since Cady and Sophie have better potty habits than the dog!

I should make a picture of Chacha, type in her costs and post it all over the web.

Small animal = big price tag

I have a photo of her sitting on her princess couch at the old house. In the photo, I left the receipt for her spay on the couch. She sat on the couch, and looked right at me.. like “HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR MY SPAY???”

                          Edit: Here is the picture

That is too funny!! I love that pic!

I am on a homeschooling board and this lady posted : FOR SALE – Adorable boy bunny. She then goes on to say how much they love him and how great he is (no doubt he IS great, after all he is a bunny) but that she has 2 males and they DON’T get along. So, here were my thoughts and then questions to her.

First, how do you CHOOSE which bunny to ditch? I mean I have 5 dogs and on any given day one of them is going to drive me nuts. But, if I had to choose to get rid of one, no freakin way. They are my kids from the day I adopted them until they day the pass over to the bridge. I take all of their bad habits, quirks and kisses.

Two, are they neutered? Answer. Of course not. Duh!! I told her to get them neutered and they she can work on bonding them. I always say some people shouldn’t re-populate and some people should never, ever own fur kids!

Luvmyhunybuny, it is sad When I first got Chacha, I tried to not have any expectations of her. I kept my mind open to who she is – being able to tolerate certain behaviors and quirks.

With any animal, there are a lot of things to keep in mind. If they do not get along, they will need to be housed apart from each other.

I will never understand how people think they can dump animals…

I will never understand it either! I always say that if I were to ever become homeless (God forbid) I would look like a freak carting around 5 dogs, 3 guinea pigs and 2 bunnies. I just can’t imagine giving any one of my kids up. Even with their quirks! With Tillie being just a hormonal mess right now, I joke with her that it is a good thing she cute

I know what you mean. Squirrel is being a little punk now, pulling at the rug, then bouncing around all excited and cute with those ears flopping everywhere.. he’s lucky he is adorable.

So, this thread came at a good time. I get an email from my SIL stating her daughter is a new mommy. Seems they got a female guinea pig in January and then got a another “female” piggie (from PETCO nonetheless) soon after. Well, turns out she is he and got the female pregnant. So, now they have 4 baby piggies. At least she had enough sense to separate mom and dad. (eyeroll).
