HI everyone! I’ve been around here for a few months but never got around to posting more than an avatar of my best buddy, Olaf. He’s the sweetest, craziest little guy and I love him to little bunny bits. He has taught me that early mornings are for adventuring and late evenings are for couch nuzzles. My life is infinitely happier.

Hamming it up for the camera, being a lazy lizard, his best mob boss impression, and camouflaging himself in other Olafs.

Yes, the black spot on his nose changes. It will grow/shrink based on the seasonal weather. :]

He is so cute! And he does look like a mob boss on pic nr 3 =)

Is he a Himalayan? Is that a fleece-forest?

Thank you! “You come into my house, on the day my daughter is to be married…” ;]

I don’t know for sure, to be honest. He was found abandoned with five other rabbits before being caught by a shelter. I thought he was a Californian when I adopted him but he hasn’t grown much and definitely isn’t as big as an average Cali. He has the Himi shape when stretched out but how such a prized breed could be dumped that way is beyond me (not to imply that any other breed should be, of course! o.O I don’t know a ton about Himis, only that they’re big show rabbits).

Yes, I made a fleece forest for him about a month ago. It’s a frame of NIC panels with two sides left open and the fleece cut to the size of the grate holes. I put a sea grass mat in the bottom. He loves it in there. Tossing the fleece strips and chewing on the mat. I definitely suggest it for any (non-eating) fabric-minded buns!

Olaf is just gorgeous I imagine with his nose marking you’re noticing that it’s bigger/darker in cooler months and smaller in the warmer months? I’m pretty sure that’s how it works anyway

Love the pics, he certainly looks like a character.

Thank you both! He’s definitely got a big personality. Yes, Azerane. I got him in the fall and come winter it started spreading. Love that about him. We’ll see if there are more changes this summer. :]

Himalayans change color with the season, it’s because the genes that make the dark pigment is switched on by cold and off by warmth. That’s also why it’s the “cold parts” of the body that are dark – the ears, feet, nose. I don’t know if they actually originate from the Himalayas, but if you are a furry prey animal from a very cold and snowy country, it would make sense to have your peripheral parts dark to attract heat from the sun and your body white so it’s invisible against the snow.

Himalayans are a popular show breed, but not all show bunnies are prize-winning quality. Some get a little too big or a little too small or there’s some other detail that stops them from becoming champions, and those buns are often sold as “pet quality”.
