        hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask for advice on one of my buns, i know im usualy on about my bun Bonnie, but surprisingly im asking about my other bun Clyde this time (I know im just as surprised! he never gets ill!). ok so ive noticed this with clyde very rarely that he’d get little instances of soft, smelly, sticky poop (sorry for the graphic detail!) sticking to his bum. i assumed it was just a case of a upset stomach? as it went away very quickly (usually within a few hours) and clyde didnt mind it. yesterday clyde got it again and i cleaned it of like i normally do when he gets it (as you can smell it!) but it occured again at night which it doesnt normally do. today i thought it would be gone but its still there. im cleaning him every few hours (as this poop traps urine and the poop balls). im going to wait a few days until i go to vet but this sort of thing rarely lasts over a day for clyde. im unsure what couldve caused as i havent changed his food or anything. should i be concerned now or will it pass? as it is very odd for him to get something like this. or anybody experience anything similar? im not even sure if its poop thats soft? as he still produces poop balls? could it be soft ceacotrophs? and if it is how do you treat it? any advice is appreciated! thanks in advance

Can you tell us about his diet? Poopy butt and soft poops are usually diet related issues. Even if it doesn’t happen all the time, they can still be correlated with one another. So diet is the first thing we need to know.

It sounds a lot like cecotropes as these tend to smell and are soft. I’m pretty sure excess cecotropes are generally caused by eating too much sugar (pellets and treats) and not enough hay. He may have started eating less hay or possibly eating all of his pellets at once?

              Hi Wilburbunny,

It’s a bit confusing with the forum just reopening, but this thread is a year old, and we ask members not to reply to old threads to avoid confusion.

We are happy to have your input though! Once the forum gets cranking again there will be plenty of new posts to check out. 🙂

Going to close this thread to further comments.
