My husband and I are going out of the country for 2 weeks in October. We used to live with my brother, and in the past, we were able to rely on him to take care of our bunnies and keep them company while we’re gone. He has since moved out and is unable to commit 2 weeks to house sit for us this time around. Does anybody have any experience boarding their buns at Bunny Bunch Fountain Valley? Particularly for an extended period of time? I’d love to hear about your experiences.

I’m particularly worried because my bunnies are completely free roam and one of my buns hates being locked up. He always tries to bite at the pen, rattle it, and push the sides out. I’m afraid he’d try to escape and give the volunteers a hard time.

I don’t know exactly where you are but doesn’t House Rabbit Society have their own boarding place in Cali?

Thanks, Bunny House! I think House Rabbit Society has a boarding place closer to LA, but this particular one is much closer to me (Orange County). It’s where we adopted one of our buns and buy all our supplies

If anyone else has had experience boarding their rabbits, what was it like for you? Did your bunnies adjust pretty easily to the unfamiliar and confined space (my bunnies are currently free roam), not to mention possibly a different eating schedule than home? Any stress issues as a result?

One of our rabbits is super chill and awesome, so we’re not too worried about her. The other one tends to be more dramatic and sensitive (he was angry at me and my husband for a few hours after taking him to the vet, to the point where we were worried he was getting stasis), so we are a bit concerned about him adjusting to being boarded. He also hates being locked up and would rattle the pen gate when confined.

Do rabbits tend to act up in these situations or do they tend to be more cooperative in these situations due to unfamiliar surroundings? We are thinking of bringing their hidey hole and rug so they have something familiar around them, but since this is new to us, we are being a little paranoid.

We adopted our rabbit from Bunny Bunch, and he is a cage rattler too, although probably not as bad as yours (although he can actually open the cage or pen door if it’s not latched). He was there about 2 months before we got him, and I don’t think they care about some rattling. They have a really big room with dozens of rabbits plus guinea pigs and chinchillas and there is a fair amount of noise from so many animals.

Bring their hidey hole (Bunny Bunch recommends they have one, and will provide one if they don’t have it) and as much familiar stuff as possible, because the staff has a lot of rabbits to deal with and they won’t get much interaction. They will need toys and as much familiar stuff as practical.
