Just spotted a pee spot on the floor where Buttercup had been loafed. I checked her butt and it is soaking. I’ve mopped as much as poss off of her with some kitchen roll but I’m really worried :-/ I noticed a pee spot this morning but I assumed it was Peanut as he sometimes does this but now I don’t know. I wished I’d checked her butt this morning (Peanut’s butt is nice and dry)
It was all over her bum and back of her legs. I know she was dry there yesterday because I felt around her when I was trying to pick her up (I failed btw lol) *Actually, in case it’s relevant – yesterday she had a matted cheek, I thought perhaps she’s dunked it in the water bowl or something so I was trying to comb it out (hence picking her up) I didn’t manage to comb it very well but it’s looking better today*
Partner is saying perhaps she just sat in pee but I don’t think her entire butt and undercarriage area would be wet just from sitting in it :-/
Edit: There was no odour (on the rug or on her back end) She’s a little stained now (yellowy) but on the kitchen roll when I soaked it up from the floor it looked clear. When I mopped up her butt, it wasn’t totally clear but didn’t have much colour. I can’t remember whether the pee spot from this morning had colour but I remember there was no odour.
Oh weird!
Maybe a UTI? I thought those normally meant more small dribbles… so I really don’t know. Once Moose pee’d in his cage and then laid completely in it, but then was when I had first brought him home and he wasn’t using his box well.
There’s been tons of talk of EC on this forum lately, so of course my mind goes straight to that… but I’m sure there are many other possibilities.

Tbh Dana, my mind went straight to EC too!
She’s nice and dry now and has just done a wee in the litter tray. Will see what happens overnight. It’s frustrating as we were at the vets just a week ago.
I’ll mention that Wick had a day where he randomly had a pee-soaked butt, but it normalized after 48hrs. Unsure of the cause, but haven’t seen it since. It could be a one time fluke, but definitely keep monitoring!

If she’s been sitting in her pee for a long time, then I think it is possible that her entire butt and undercarriage area would be wet.
I know some people say that bunnies would generally avoid sitting in their pee because they hate the feeling, but I’ve seen Kurotta sit or lounge straight where he peed before and he didn’t seem to be minding it at all (we removed him from the puddle anyway because obviously we didn’t want him to rest in it lol).
Probably best to observe and monitor if it happens again since it may be too early to detect or diagnose anything at this point. And try not to worry (I know you worry a ton about them two but the keyword here is “try”
)!
Thanks for the reassurance Wick!
Ha, yes Kurotta, I’ll try
It’s weird tho because the pee spot I found yesterday evening was still warm after she’d stopped loafing and moved so I don’t know how long she’d been sitting in it as it seemed pretty fresh. Does wee stay warm for a while? Lol.
No more wee spots overnight however I did hear a strange noise and went to investigate – I believe the noise I heard was possibly Buttercup jumping over the water bowls and knocking them together in the process (I have two down at night) because there was a lot of water spillage and her butt was wet! I dried it (off her) and she’s still dry now over 6 hours later.
I’m hoping that these two are just isolated events! But I shall be closely observing…
With Bombur it was a very constant thing. His butt was just wet every second of every damn day. You’d wipe and dry his bum and 10 minutes later it would be soaked again. Make note if you see dribbles too!
Hoping you don’t join the ranks :*
Well I would think if the pee puddle was being sat on for a while, it could possibly stay warm (think a hen sitting on her eggs lol)…
Thanks A&B, I was hoping you’d chime in
Kurotta now I’m imagining a bunny/hen hybrid sitting on a pile of poops ?
No more pee spots or wet butt incidents! I’m feeling her butt several times a day. She’s not impressed.
One irritated bunny is better than one sick bunny
and they’re kinda cute when irritated ![]()
One time after I took Juniper to be groomed, I found her laying in a puddle of her own pee that had soaked up into the blanket she was laying on. Her butt felt wet when I checked and I knew it was pee because it had oxidized to a brownish red color. It was so strange as it was a one time incident and I can only attribute it possibly to the stress of being transported and having her nails clipped…
Still no more pee spots and she has a lovely dry bum ![]()
No more issues since posting til this morning I checked her back end and it was a little wet. It wasn’t just her undercarriage area so it wasn’t just because she’d peed as normal but it also was nowhere near as wet as previous. She wasn’t happy with me touching her butt area but I managed to wipe it a few times with my bare hand ? and it’s fine now. She went and had a wee in the litter tray after. I noticed in the tray there was hay at the entrance that was obviously blocking the grate so I assume she just got a bit of wee on her from where the pee couldn’t get immediately adsorbed so I’m not too worried. Will continue to monitor!
My rabbits occasionally get pee on them, but it may be hard to not with their fur being so long at times. I may be she just sat in her litter box, or maybe had a hard time peeing (as in she peed herself). I always just give their fur a trim around their bottoms when this does happy to my rabbits. Also, a quick butt bath might help with getting the pee off. I have never heard of an illness retaining to a rabbit peeing themselves though. I would love to know if anyone else knows of one so I can keep an eye on my buns. Hope that helped!
