So this unexpected incident happened today…

Moshu has been making these sounds since the past few weeks. I dont know if she’s grunting or honking..but I think its honking. She honks often, but mostly in my presence, as I have been told by my mother. She’s about 6 months old and unspayed, so I am not surprised. However, a few hours back, I planted a few kisses on her head and was sitting in ‘her area’ and out of nowhere, she started mounting and humping my hand. I know that its an act of showing dominance over me or that she wants to mate with me..I have no problems with her thinking either of it However, while she was mounting my arm, she nipped me so hard, so damn hard that I coudnt resist but scream and push her away. What I am worried about is, whether my screaming and pushing away would make her think that I do not want her to be around me. If she was doing it to exert dominance over me, I am worried that my response made her feel as the subordinate bunny. I dont want her to feel like that..because..I’m her bunny slave !

How should I respond in case if she does that again ? Should I just somehow..bear the painful nips and let her do what she is doing ? 

(We’ll get her spayed in January, hopefully)

I think your reaction was pretty normal. Hopefully it will deter her from biting you again. I don’t think her feelings were hurt. It probably startled her and next time she may choose not to bite you. I think if it were me the next time I would gently push her away if possible. I hope she gets spayed like you said.

Some bunnies latch on while mating or expressing dominance so I imagine that’s what she was doing — biting was just part of the act. Best you can do is the normal squeal and gently push her off. I would expect the humping to continue until her hormones calm down after spaying.

My bun once gave me a playful nip on the toe and I drew my foot back quickly and made a little yelp – more out of being startled than anything. He was snuffling around my foot – maybe he thought my big toe was a tasty snack? He never tried to nip me again and went on with his cheerful, playful behavior, so I bet your rabbit will be okay and as JackRabbit said after the spay her hormones will level out.

She orbits around my feet and nips me pretty often. One thing I find funny is, a lot of times, she nips and licks me at the same time. I have made the yelling sounds, shook her off. But she still nips me every now and the then if she wants to, but along with the kisses. I was startled last night because that was the first time I saw her mounting. And, I was kinda embarrassed ^^;; I willvery gently push her away the next time.

How much times does it take for the hormones to level out after the surgery ?

Most say 4 to 6 weeks. My girls didn’t take that long but they were spayed young. They did have mean girl moments during the first few weeks post-spay though with grudges, bunny butts, and the usual mood swings!

Boston used to hump my hubby’s arms long after she was spayed! She did the nipping thing too but never too hard. I don’t think you hurt her feelings…as long as you continue slaving away I think she’ll forgive you!

@Little Lion Head : Will continue to be her slave as long as she lives ! Do they normally hump a specific person ? Or they’re random in that behavior ?

Boston was more inclined to go after Jared…maybe because of his hairy arms? She would hump me now and then too, but not as often. We eventually got her a stuffed animal to take out her emotions on!

That’s a really good question. It seems with mating type humping, they seem to set their sites on particular people or objects — it could be your arm, a pair of slippers, etc. With dominance humping, I’m thinking its whoever the bunny feels he/she needs to make sure knows the pecking order.
