There isn’t any pet shops around here that don’t sell pets as well as supplies, but the one I shop at actually has animals for adoption as well as sale.

He’s called Spots and his owners returned him ‘cos he fought with the other rabbits and I loooove him. These are the reasons I cannot have him:

        • I would have to have upstairs and downstairs rabbits. Whoever was upstairs would not get much time spent with them.  Spots would be lonely all on his own, and I think my boys would miss us if we moved them. Plus, feeding and cleaning times would become a real hassle.
        • I could try and bond them. Seriously though, trying to bond a lone bun to a pair of brothers on your first attempt?
        • My buns are so happy and settled with each other, and us – do I really want to upset that?
        • My husband will be out of a job in spring and if he can’t find another we’ll be at my mum’s. The buns (and us) would all be in one room, 8’x11′,  with nowhere else to go. That could be a nightmare.
        • Oxo hasn’t been well. He’s just got back to his old self so it wouldn’t be fair on him.
        • I wouldn’t be able to justify 90 pounds for a neuter, plus any other vets fees. I need to focus on looking after us and my boys.

So there, cute friendly rabbit cannot come live with me. Must Stop Thinking About Spots.

I think you need to do what’s best for the rabbits that you currently have and yourself. I think you have stated so many good reasons that right now is not the right time to get this rabbit.

You are right to put yourself and your current rabbits first.

Do you have a friend or family member who is an animal lover and might want a rabbit? Even if you can’t take him (and I agree with your list that you simply CANNOT take him), it would be nice if you could help find him a home.

I know I can’t, I really do. I just wanted to write it all out and hear some other people say “you are right – this rabbit is not for you”. I also think it is mean of the pet shop to keep the hay at the back where you *have* to walk past the homeless animals, grrr.

Beka, a friend of mine was thinking about getting a rabbit a few months ago and nothing came of it – I can’t believe I didn’t think of this before! It might work out really well. Thanks!

It is so hard to stop thinking about those ones that capture you. So there is a Rescue/Shelter that is working with this petshop? If that’s the case, he might be in a good position in getting a good home provided the organisation interviews adopters. Still, if someone you know were to take him that would be SO much better!

It’s actually the store JG. It’s a bit of an odd one. They sometimes put up animals that haven’t sold, but they’re mainly ones that have been returned and people can bring in any small animal. I don’t know what they’d do if they had in influx though. I can’t decide if I approve or not!
