Sad to hear, but KNEW it all along. My city was voted worst winter in Canada! haha! Being #1 is usually a good thing, but so far we’ve been the Slurpee captial of the world, Murder captial in Canada, best neighbourhood in Canada and now we’re the coldest as well (our coldest winter since 1977). We really earned our nickname “winterpeg” this year. Ouch.
That’s awful! We are not having a great winter either. Well, technically, it’s Spring but yesterday we got the worst storm of the year. To get outside this morning, my husband had to jump out the bedroom window because the snow drifts by our door was higher than the door! We got about 40cm and another 15 coming on Sunday. I think the Easter Bunny is gonna be white this year!!
So you guys were the murder capital of canda AND the best neighborhood? How does this work? Haha
Haha NBO! They’re really friendly… Long as you don’t make ’em mad… Lol!
I feel your pain, rayray… This winter has been ridiculous… I am so ready for it to be over!
Littlepuffytail, I heard about that storm. Yikes!! This winter, with the windchill, we’ve been anywhere from -30 to -50.
NBO, I think most of it is gang feuds. I’m lucky to be in the best neighbour. Rent is high but worth it.
Exactly, beka! Don’t make us mad. Lol! I think the prairies all over North America had it bad.
I live in a pretty low crime City. We’re one of the biggest cities in the Province so it’s a bit surprising. Although, the past year or so there has been more crime. I think we are all pretty mellow here on the East Coast, lol. Despite the crappy weather, I feel pretty lucky to live where I do. Only thing is, I want out of the City. I’m a city girl with my heart in the country.
I would love to visit the east coast. I’ve never even seen the ocean!! I’ve heard NB has the best lobster. Mmm…
My best friend just moved to Vancouver Island so I’ll finally get to see at least the Pacific this summer.
To get outside this morning, my husband had to jump out the bedroom window because the snow drifts by our door was higher than the door!
That’s a little freaky, to not be able open your front door!
Wow. Our winter overnight lows rarely go below 4°C (39). On average overnight it’s about 8°C (46).
*hides from snowballs the northerners want to throw at me*
We didn’t get winter this winter. We had snow for like a week.
If I remember correctly, Michael Moore went around trying people’s doors in Canada because he heard no one locks their doors. He went to quite a few houses that appeared to be unlocked and then he talked to the people living there. Is that true that people don’t lock their doors? I’ve always wondered that.
The really bad stuff this winter in the US was in the eastern portion. Super cold temps and a lot of snow. In the middle, there were super cold periods but also some warmer periods. We had some days in the 60s! Very little snowfall, it was below average. Then in the west, they appeared to be unseasonably warm and there were large areas with drought (which is still ongoing). I think everyone has had a crazy winter. But wow, -30 to -50 windchills all winter? Yikes!
I know a lot of people that don’t lock their doors. lol! I saw that Michael Moore film. My fav was when he asked people coming out of the hospital how much thier baby cost. haha!
The cold has been especially hard on those of us with asthma. I’ve taken quite a few sick days. Fingers crossed we get a decent summer! Although as cold as the winters can be, the summer can be really hot & humid.
I guess I should suck it up or move. ![]()
People that live in more rural areas are known for not locking their doors. I live near a busy area of the City so I always lock my doors. Having pets, I would no matter where I live. You can steal my stuff but the biggest nightmare would be someone hurting or stealing my babies. Around here, though, you can go to the corner store and see a few cars in the parking lot running while someone runs in the store. Car thefts and things like that are just not a big issue here.
Hard to believe you’ve never seen the Ocean, rayray. It’s about a 20 minute drive to the beach from where I am. My sister lives almost right on the beach. And yes, we have great lobster (or so I hear, I don’t eat seafood.). The next town over is the Lobster capital of the world.
Well I’m at the other extreme rayray! Just a week ago we had another heatwave (in March – good grief!), but then we just had a few days of rain, enough to cause flash flooding AGAIN. Now today I am sitting at my desk wiping the sweat off my face – it is not stinking hot, but the humidity is SO high, everything is damp/wet! I can’t win at the moment!!!!! I hate winter – but bring it on! (as Jersey said above our winter’s are very mild compared to all of yours, and I still hate the cold! Could you imagine me living there???? LOL!).
I live in a beach suburb, the ocean is just a few minutes walk away. I couldn’t imagine not living near the water…… and in summer, I leave my doors open with just the security screens locked. My Grandma’s house (out west) never had a lock on the door, though I’m sure she would now? Such a shame how the times have changed….. (oh, and the extreme weather conditions we all seem to be suffering now).
PS Jersey – you said your winter temps in SA get to 4 degrees (sorry guys, I don’t know how to translate the temps) – our lows are usually around 11 – 14 degrees and I have the heater blaring! LOL! Did I say I hate the cold????? But I’m hating the heat more at this very moment
, it’s driving me
crazy!
11C is like 52F. Today the high was 49F, which is a little bit below normal for March. We should be in the upper 50s right now.
Ah! I thought when I read that you said you lived in the murder capital you must be here in Edmonton! I know we steal that ‘status’ from winnipeg, it seems to go back and forth!
I have family in Winnipeg (and love Winnipeg!) but you had an even worse winter than us this year I think-there was the state of emergency with all the frozen pipes if I remember correctly?
Spring (And flooding probably!) is on it’s way and cheer up-at least you have Grand Beach!! We have terrible beaches in Alberta ![]()
Oh ya, I’ve heard Edmonton has gang problems as well.
Yes! The pipes underground froze in some areas. I think they finally thawed in the past few weeks. Luckily my area was spared. Not sure if it depended on the type of piping or the depth.
We get flood warnings every year. Which I find useless and hilarious because we live on a FLOOD PLAIN. So yes, floods are usually expected. We don’t need a warning. lol! Thank goodness for the floodway. That spares most of Winnipeg.
Ahh Grand Beach. And the lovely E.Coli warnings. lol! I would take West Edmonton Mall over Grand Beach any day! lol!
And Andi, I HATE the heat. It’s the sweating for no reason the bugs me and makes me feel so gross. I guess I really am a Canadian girl through and through. lol! Or maybe it’s my Sioux blood. Can’t remember if I said, but I usually don’t mind winter. But this one has just been painfully long & cold. 2 years ago in March we had our earliest patio season start. Mother Nature is a fickle, fickle woman.
