So I’ve determined that I’m completely crazy. We were out running some errands today and went into a local pet shop to see what type of rabbit stuff they have. I browsed my way up the isle to a cage on the floor. What’s in the cage?  A perfect pure white Holland Lop girl. This of course just happens to be what I envisioned Freya would look like before I actually found a bun and brought her home. I held her of course, she was perfectly tolerant of being held, petted and inspected. She’s also twenty bucks.

Freya went psycho hormonal just a week ago and now I’m all “can I have her?” to my husband. I’m still considering going back for her. Sigh… I’m crazy. I really don’t need another bun right this minute but but but… she’s PERFECT!

Is she for sure a she? If she is I would advise against getting her. Bonding two females is the hardest of any pair and you would potentially have to keep them separate for life. On top of that, if you want another rabbit I would suggest finding a rescue that lets you bunny date and that way Freya could choose her own mate and you will be rescuing a rabbit on top of that! Looks are important, but happy rabbits will more than make up for those!

I know  how tempting that can be.  If I could care for them all and had the room for them I would have 100.  But I can only  handle 2 and have room for only 2 cause they are seperated.

I haven’t tried to bond them since their big fight.  Even on neutral territory at the park Cotton started  jumping over her then onto her then nipping.

If you have to keep them seperate it is a bit harder to share equal time between the 2.  I would love Ruby in the living room but Cotton and her mark A LOT.

Bonding can be difficult.  Bunny dating is a much better option.  And the bunny that your bun chooses might not be the one you would choose.

It is hard to pass them up I know.  But I have to.

Do you have a big place?  Could you keep them seperated for life if necessary?

Sigh… it’s not sane or rational to keep them seperated. We don’t have enough space for them each to have their own room and I don’t want poop wars in my living room/office. I know in my head that the very idea is stupid and that it’s not sane or rational to bring another bunny home. Especially when Freya went psycho with hormones a week ago. It’s just… my head says no and my heart says yes! She was just so cute and cuddly needing a home. I’ve more or less talked myself out of it. I love Freya too much and love letting her have all the room she can too much to cage her for half day for a new bunny. She’d probably get pretty mad, she’s a bit of a diva.

Well remember too she may be cute and cuddly at the pet store but once she has her own space, that could very well not be the case and if she’s a baby you will experience the same psycho behavior when she gets older.

I know it’s hard. I have a hard time going into stores that sell animals. I can’t help thinking “I can give you such a great home!” but realistically, I know it’s not the best thing for my family or my buns I have (or the many, many, many buns in shelters waiting for their forever home.)
